The UGE is a trans positive and anti-racist feminist organization in so-called "Montreal". We are currently closed until 2022

The UGE operates an alternative library and Co-op, as well as hosts events and advocates for social justice issues.

FEMINIST MEDIA CIRCLE
presented by the Union for Gender Empowerment

When: most Mondays at 18h (see schedule below)
Where: room 413, University Centre (3480 rue McTavish)

Let’s come together to read or watch and discuss some feminist media! In these times of ascendant fascism and patriarchy, we must learn, think, and have fun together. We have magazine articles, a film, a short story, and a sewing workshop coming up. No preparation is needed—we will read or watch or make the pieces together during the events. Snacks provided.

Monday March 23rd @ 18h: For a Q***r Revolutionary Movement (2023) & For a Q***r Revolutionary Autonomy (2026) by Louve Rose. Local texts laying out a program for building power as q***r revolutionaries.

Monday March 30th @ 18h: The Ugliest Girls (2023) by Lindsay Wong. A horror short story on the commodification of beauty.

Tuesday April 7th @ 18h: Paris is Burning (1990) directed by Jennie Livingston. A classic documentary about the New York City ball culture of the 1980s.

Monday April 13th @ 18h: Refusal, Reorienting (2026) by ZTL and Counter-Disinformation (2026) by Laïka. The former is a text about anti-racist organizing, and preventing its watering down. The latter uses the history of q***rcore music to inform a fun proposal for propaganda.

Monday April 20th @ 18h: mend your s**t! — a sewing workshop. Bring clothing you want to fix up. We’ll help and teach each other, share skills, and end the semester together.

🩵) Staffer training is the main way for people to get involved in the UGE. In it you’ll learn who we are, what we do and how we do it, and how to help staff our office. Dinner will be provided (we’ll accommodate for dietary restrictions).

There are two slots for staffer training this semester. There is one slot on Thursday, September 18th in room 403; the other slot is Friday, September 19th in B-29 (this room is kinda hard to find, we’ll be there in the lobby to help you find the room).

The primary task we ask of our volunteers is to staff our office, but there are lots of other ways to help out! We need people to help table at events, poster for UGE campaigns, facilitate reading circles, do feminist advocacy on and off campus, etc. If you can’t staff but are still interested in helping out with the UGE you should still sign up for staffer training.

(sexandu dot ca, or link in bio) “It’s My Choice” is a new online tool that compares abortion pill and abortion procedure, for people seeking an abortion in Canada during early pregnancy. It helps you decide the method of abortion that’s right for you. It’s also available in French, Mandarin, and Punjabi!
