📘 The DSM: a diagnostic tool
but not a complete definition of a person

🔎 For some people, receiving a diagnosis helps them put their experiences into words, better understand themselves, access services, obtain accommodations, or reduce feelings of isolation. For others, a diagnosis is not always necessary or desired. A person may be experiencing difficulties, seeking support, or wanting to improve their well-being without feeling the need to be associated with a diagnostic label. Beyond the diagnosis, what matters most is listening to each person’s needs, experiences, and unique circumstances.

Non-abused, non-abusing siblings: the forgotten children in intrafamilial child sexual abuse interventions 05/28/2026

📔 New publication alert! The Consortium is pleased to share a newly published article in the Journal of Sexual Aggression co-authored by member Anaïs Cadieux Van Vliet: Non-abused, non-abusing siblings: the forgotten children in intrafamilial child sexual abuse interventions.
This article explores the often-overlooked experiences of siblings in families affected by intrafamilial child sexual abuse — siblings who are neither abused nor displayed harmful sexual behaviors, yet whose lives, identities, relationships, and wellbeing are profoundly shaped by the abuse and its aftermath. It calls attention to a significant gap in current intervention approaches: the needs and experiences of these siblings frequently remain overlooked within child welfare, mental health, and trauma-informed systems of care.

📔 Nouvelle publication !

Non-abused, non-abusing siblings: the forgotten children in intrafamilial child sexual abuse interventions In the context of child sexual abuse research and practice, limited attention has been given to non-abused, non-abusing siblings. These are children who were not themselves sexually abused, nor did...

❀‍đŸ©č Today is International Missing Children's Day. While abductions by strangers often get the most media attention, we know that abduction by a parent or family member is far more common. Even if the child is not under threat of physical harm, the disruption of their sense of security and stability can have far reaching effects.
🛜 MissingKids.ca, Canada’s missing children resource centre, offers helpful information on indicators, prevention and immediate steps that can be taken if your child has been abducted.
