Modern venues are no longer just displaying the game.

They are producing it.

The Miami HEAT’s move to an IP-based production environment shows how in-venue teams are adopting broadcast-grade workflows to improve fan experience, flexibility, and image quality.

A strong example of how sports venues are upgrading for what comes next.

Five signs your enterprise production environment has outgrown its AV system:

1. Your biggest events need a completely different setup to your daily production
2. Your team’s expertise doesn’t transfer between rooms or locations
3. Post event content repurposing is manual, slow, or doesn’t happen
4. Security and compliance are bolt on configurations, not built in architecture
5. Every live production still feels like the first one

If three or more of these sound familiar, the problem isn’t your team. It’s the foundation they’re working on.

The camera gets the attention.

But the switcher is what tells the story.

At the highest level of live sport, the difference is not just image quality. It is how every angle, replay, graphic, and live moment comes together in real time.

That is why the production workflow matters.

NBC Sports’ John Howard shares his perspective on what really makes major sports broadcasts work.

From Olympic-scale coverage to day-to-day live sports production, Warner Bros. Discovery has been building a unified production platform designed to support both.

Built on Grass Valley AMPP, with Framelight X and Playout X at the core, the platform supported coverage of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 while continuing to power regular Eurosport and TNT Sports operations.

Across the Games, the system handled:

➡️ 62,000+ hours of recorded content
➡️ 42 linear channels in 22 languages
➡️ 100+ digital channels
➡️ More than 4,000 live events across linear and digital platforms

The case study looks at how Warner Bros. Discovery is standardizing workflows across ingest, asset management, playout and post-production through a software-defined, distributed production environment that can scale across both major live events and continuous sports coverage.

The IPL - Indian Premier League reaches an audience on a scale very few sporting events can match. An $18.5 billion league. Around $580 million in ad revenue. More than 120 million tickets sold. And hundreds of millions of viewers following every match across TV and streaming platforms.

Behind that audience is an equally massive live production operation.

This season, around 90% of the cameras across nine IPL venues are from Grass Valley, together with our switchers and Densité, Kaleido and Sirius infrastructure supporting productions throughout the tournament.

From live coverage and replays to graphics and distribution across linear and OTT, it’s a huge technical undertaking every single match day.
