What an incredible few days celebrating Canadian and Indigenous filmmaking at the Cinematic Arts Awards and the Canadian Screen Awards!

40 Acres, directed by R.T. Thorne and produced by Jennifer Holness, took home 9 awards, including the John Dunning Best First Feature Film Award.

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie also had a standout showing, earning 6 awards, with wins including Best Film, and both comedy acting awards for feature films!

Endless congratulations to the team behind Endless Cookie, the animated documentary from Seth and Peter Scriver, which won two awards, including Best Feature Length Documentary.

Compulsive Liar 2 was honoured with the Golden Screen Award for Feature Film, sponsored by Telefilm Canada, recognizing it as the highest-grossing Canadian film at the box office last year.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees! There’s no creation without collaboration, and your talent, dedication, and passion continue to inspire and help our country shine.

Recap of Canada’s presence at Cannes! 🍁

Canada made a powerful impact at this year’s Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes, bringing together a delegation of more than 400 industry professionals. Our presence was felt across the Canada Pavilion’s information sessions, the impACT Lab, the Frontières Platform, Showcase Canada at Cannes Docs, the 2026 Not Short on Talent cohort, as well as numerous market panels and activities.

On the festival side, congratulations to the team behind Skinny Boots, winner of the Sony Discovery Short Film Award at Critics’ Week. At the market, Ba’s Book received the Documentary Magazine Award at Cannes Docs.

Bold, funny, and unapologetically real, Bare heads to Cannes as part of the 2026 Not Short on Talent cohort.

Directed by Miranda MacDougall and Lucy McNulty, and written by and starring Claire Johnstone, this witty Canadian short explores modern dating, body image, and self-confidence with honesty, humour, and heart.

Set around an aquafit class and its unforgettable group of senior women, Bare challenges on-screen representations of aging female bodies while celebrating vulnerability and self-love at every age.

📢 News Release - Telefilm Canada invests in 8 minority coproductions.

Telefilm Canada announces that it will invest in 8 minority coproductions for a total of $3.45 million through its Production Program: 5 films for the English-language market and 3 films for the French-language market.

Canada is back on the Croisette for the 79th edition of the Festival de Cannes!
🎬 At the festival:
- MARIE MADELEINE (international collaboration with Canada, France, Haiti, Belgium, and Luxembourg), directed by Gessica Généus, Official Selection in Cannes Première section/program
- DEATH HAS NO MASTER (official coproduction with Canada, Venezuela, Italy and Luxembourg), directed by Jorge Thielen Armand, Directors’ Fortnight
- SKINNY BOTTINES, a short film by Romain F. Dubois, Critics’ Week

🎥 On the industry side:
Canada is also making its mark at the Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes:
- Four feature documentaries in late-stage production showcased at Cannes Docs, Docs-In-Progress – Canada Showcase: Ba’s Book (Ashley Duong), Parrandas (Constance Chaput-Raby), Sisters of the Union (Dan Popa), and Steve’s Version (Sofia Bohdanowicz)
- Two projects in development by emerging talent will be presented at Frontières - Proof of Concept: Baldoon (Nancy Morski) and Spiral (Kourtney Roy)
- One project in post-production, The Wrath by Shayne Putzlocher will be featured at the Frontières - Buyers Showcase

It was with great pride that we gathered in Ottawa for the Bon Cop, Bad Cop series advanced screening, alongside Patrick Huard, Anik Jean, Joshua Odjick, Christine Beaulieu, as well as senators, members of Parliament, and valued industry partners.

For the occasion, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, was in attendance to underscore the importance of cultural sovereignty and the strength of our storytelling.

To this day, Bon Cop, Bad Cop remains the highest-grossing Canadian film of all time, achieving what few productions have: bringing together French and English speaking audiences across the country.

It’s a powerful reminder of how the audiovisual industry can unite people across languages and cultures.

The six-episode series premieres May 7 on Crave.

100 Sunset, from writer-director Kunsang Kyirong, is in theatres today!

The film is an intimate portrait of the Tibetan diaspora in Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood, through the eyes of two young women.

We spoke to , as well as producer about the film’s personal inspirations, unusual style and the experience of making their first feature film. Watch the full interview on our YouTube channel (link in bio!).

This is the first Tibetan and English language film supported through Telefilm Canada’s Talent to Watch program. The film was also supported through our International Promotion Program.
