The City of Longueuil is opposing a legal request to make public the identity of the police officer who shot 15-year-old Nooran Rezayi citing security reasons.
Shortly after the death of the teen in 2025, the Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL) said it received death threats and a suspected killing contract on the police officer who shot the teen circulated on social media.
The information is shown in legal documents sent to the media.
The lawyers of the Rezayi family would like the names of the police officers that were present during the police intervention on September 21, 2025, when their son died, be made public.
The City of Longueuil, who is the employer of the SPAL, is asking that the names be confidential for security reasons. Among the reasons, they cite an image that was circulating on Instagram of the suspected police officer saying $2000 would be paid for that person’s death. A minor has since been charged with criminal harassment in line with the case.
The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) is also requesting the name of the police officer not be made public for investigation purchases.
If the police officer would face criminal accusations in the case, their identity would then be made public.
