Founded and run by Sabariah Hussein, Our 2nd Home Shelter provides temporary lodging to people in housing need.
We also run a food bank and soup kitchen at the same location. This is a non-profit, non-governmental organization.

General information
If you would like to help out at our shelter, sign-up for our monthly volunteer program. Listed below are the weekly volunteering shifts that you can choose from:
Mondays
Cooking for River’s Edge Community Kitchen for homeless people.
Tasks:
1) Help with cooking
Time:12pm - 4:30pm (it is possible to sign-up at any time of convenience for a minimum of 1 hour, no special skills required).
Location: At the shelter.
Volunteers needed: 3-4 (women)
2) Food serving
Time: 5pm - 6:30pm
Location: At St. Antoine Church

Wednesdays
Cooking classes given by Sister Sabariah at NDG Food Depot for the needy.
Tasks: Cleaning and help with cooking
Time: 4pm - 6pm

Thursdays
Cooking for weekly food sales.
Tasks:
1) Help with cooking (no special skills required)
Time: 8am - 10am (every other Thursday)
Location: At the shelter
Volunteers needed: 2-4 (women)
2) Friday cooking preparation (mostly cutting veggies and preparing stuffings)
Time: 7pm - 9 pm
Location: At the shelter
Volunteers needed: 2-4 (women)
Fridays
Cooking for weekly food sales.
Tasks:
1) Help with cooking (mostly stuffing pies and frying, it is possible to sign-up at any time of convenience for a minimum of 1 hour, no special skills required)
Time: 8:30am - 12pm
Location: At the shelter
Volunteers needed: 4-5 (women)
2) Selling food at McGill
Time: 1.30pm - 2.15pm
Location: SSMU Ballroom
Volunteers needed: 2 (men/women)
We also need volunteers for miscellaneous tasks throughout the week, such as visiting the sick at the hospital (for patients who don't have families), helping out seniors, babysitting (as a volunteer or possibly paid), etc. If you cannot commit to a month-long volunteer program but would still like to help on occasions, this is the perfect opportunity for you.
