🛶 Once again this year, master builder and qajaq (kayak) enthusiast Alain Cloutier walked our students and adult learners through qajaq building.
Qajaq-building workshops are integrated into culture class and funded by the Ilurqusitigut program—an educational and cultural initiative led by Kativik Ilisarniliriniq. Building a qajaq is much more than a mere handiwork project. As true moments of cultural transmission, those workshops revitalize traditional Inuit craftsmanship.
✨ What do you think of the final product? Outstanding, isn’t it? Building a qajaq is a source of pride and learning for all those who participated in the process.

🛶 Cette année encore, Alain Cloutier, maître constructeur et passionné de qajaq (kayak), accompagne nos étudiants et apprenants adultes dans la fabrication de qajaq.
Intégrés au cours de culture et financés par le programme Ilurqusitigut – une initiative éducative culturelle portée par Kativik Ilisarniliriniq –, ces ateliers vont bien au-delà d’un simple projet manuel. Véritables moments de transmission culturelle, ils permettent de redonner vie à un savoir-faire inuit ancestral.

🌈 Students at ᐃᓐᓇᓕᒃ ᐃᓕᓴᕐᕕᒃ École Innalik School were reminded of the importance of diversity and belonging to their community.
📖 Karolann, a regional student counselor with Kativik Ilisarniliriniq, shared The Story of the Bead with students to illustrate how everyone’s differences strengthen the community, like a jar filled with unique beads.
🤝 The entire school then reunited to break a record: creating the longest banner ever made, filled with a multitude of unique characters designed by the students.

🌈 L’école Innalik a rappelé aux élèves l'importance de la diversité et de l’appartenance à la communauté.
📖 Karolann, conseillère régionale aux élèves de Kativik Ilisarniliriniq, leur a notamment raconté l’histoire de la perle pour illustrer comment les différences de chacun renforcent la communauté, à l’image d’un bocal rempli de perles uniques.
‍🤝 Tous les élèves se sont ensuite réunis pour relever un défi de taille : créer la plus longue banderole jamais réalisée avec une multitude de personnages uniques imaginés par les élèves.

👮‍♂️ᐱᒋᐅᕐᕕᒃ ᐃᓕᓐᓂᐊᕕᒃ École Pigiurvik School welcomed a Nunavik police officer to raise awareness of cyberbullying among young children.
💻 After discussing the benefits and dangers of using the internet and showing the students the different parts of his uniform, the officer led a quiz to help students learn what is safe to share online and what is not.
🌟 This educational and inspiring encounter left a lasting impression, with some students now dreaming of becoming police officers.

👮‍♂️ L’école Pigiurvik a organisé la venue d’un agent de police du Nunavik pour sensibiliser les tout-petits à la cyberintimidation.
💻 Après avoir discuté des avantages et des dangers liés à l’utilisation d’internet, et présenté son uniforme, l’agent a animé un quizz pour apprendre aux enfants à reconnaître ce qu’il est sécuritaire de partager en ligne ou non.
🌟 Une rencontre à la fois éducative et inspirante... certains des élèves rêvant maintenant de devenir policier.

🥁 ᐊᔭᒍᑕᒃ ᐃᓕᓐᓂᐊᕕᒃ École Ajagutak School Secondary students welcomed David Serkoak, a passionate Inuit elder, who came to share his knowledge through workshops on Qilaut (traditional Inuit drum) making.
🎵 With great focus, the students built their own instruments and then delivered a drum performance in front of the school and the community.
🌟🪡 The girls wore their silapaaq (traditional Inuit clothing) which they crafted in their culture class, making the moment even more special.
