Thank you, New Westminster!
Congratulations to all the candidates elected in New Westminster's municipal election. We remain committed to the values that brought our team together: people-first politics for an affordable, livable, and sustainable city.
While the results are not what we hoped for, we are humbled and proud of the support Community First received. More than 10,000 of you showed up by donating, volunteering, or voting. Thank you to every volunteer who contributed to this campaign, and to the 45% of voters who cast their ballot for Patrick Johnstone for Mayor.
To our candidates who were not elected, Bereket Kebede, Dalia Al-Hussaini, Peter Jorgensen, and Kane Tse for Council, and Junior Chuang, Michelle Hak Hepburn, Jeremy Perry, and Paul Romein for School Board: we believe in you. You put your names forward because you wanted to make a positive impact on our community, and you were working toward a better New West long before your name was on a ballot. Thank you for believing in this city and sharing in Community First's values.
To Patrick Johnstone and Jaimie McEvoy: thank you for your years of service to New Westminster, Jaimie as a councillor since 2008 and Patrick at the Council table and as Mayor. The city we see today would not be possible without the two of you championing progressive policies. Patrick would be the first to say it was never about him, it was "us."
To Tasha Henderson, re-elected to Council, and Mary Trentadue, elected to the School Board: congratulations. Community First stands behind you as you champion progressive policies for New Westminster.
We all need a little rest, and then we'll be inviting you to help plan what comes next. If you'd like to be part of it, sign up for our newsletter at www.communityfirstnw.ca
