Did you know? 💡

A new Ontario study found that individuals with a recent experience of homelessness were more than 4 times as likely to experience a delayed hospital discharge. On average, stays were also 4.7 days longer.

Without safe housing, transitional care, and community supports, leaving the hospital can become a major barrier to recovery.

The study highlights the need for greater investment in:
🏠 Supportive housing
💙 Medical respite care
🤝 Coordinated discharge planning
🏥 Stronger connections between health care and community services

🏠 2025 Transitional Housing Recap

28,139 nights of safety, stability, and support. 💙

In 2025, Blue Door's transitional housing programs gave individuals and families more than a safe place to stay; they offered a chance to build stability, overcome barriers, and take meaningful steps toward permanent housing.

Supporting families, senior men, and 2SLGBTQI+ youth, these programs address the root causes of homelessness by providing longer-term housing and individualized support to help break the cycle of chronic and episodic homelessness.

Every night of safety is another step toward a more stable future. Through these programs, Blue Door continues to create pathways to lasting housing stability and stronger communities. 💙

“The support and care I have received here from the staff has been life-saving. I have been able to relax long enough to get back into crafting. My most recent project was hand-sewing teddy bears for the children at Leeder Place, which was a big hit among the residents and staff.”

INNclusion provides more than a place to live. It offers a safe and affirming environment where individuals can find stability, reconnect with the things they love, and build meaningful connections within their community. 🧸💙

Myth vs. Fact 👀

❌ Myth: Closing encampments makes communities safer.

✅ Fact: Moving people out of sight doesn’t address the root causes of homelessness. It can also make it harder for outreach workers to connect with people who need support.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a time to raise awareness about mental health and the importance of access to support and care.

In Ontario, an estimated 25% to 50% of people experiencing homelessness live with a mental health condition. This highlights the importance of accessible mental health services alongside housing and other critical supports.

At Blue Door, we believe everyone deserves access to the support needed to build stability, health, and a safe place to call home. 💙
