If you’ve been thinking about getting tickets to our Trivia Night at the Library, stop thinking and start buying! There are only 8 tickets left for the fundraiser, happening Saturday, October 24!
This is going to be a really great night, full of fun, friendly competition, prizes, and a silent auction. Not to mention tasty nibbles thanks to our food sponsor, Wind Japanese and Thai Niagara Falls.
Tickets are just $20 per person or $160 for a full table of 8 and can be purchased online through CanadaHelps (nfpl.info/Fundraiser) or at any library location.
The event will be at our Victoria Avenue location with doors opening at 6:30 pm and trivia beginning at 7:00 pm.
Trivia categories will include, but are not limited to: Literature, Food/Drink, Entertainment, Sports, General Knowledge & a special category called 'Kid at Heart' celebrating our fundraising goal!
Every single dollar raised this year will go toward buying Playaway Launchpad Quests for all four of our library locations. These are large, pre-loaded educational computers packed with safe, fun learning games for kids that will allow parents to let kids play without worrying about open internet access.
See you there!

One Book One Niagara is just two weeks away! Do you have your ticket yet?
This year’s book choice is A Dark Forgetting by local (and New York Times bestselling!) author Kristen Ciccarelli and we’re thrilled to have the chance to hear her talk about her novel at this year’s finale event happening on Thursday, October 22.
If you’d like to read the book before the event, you can join in on a community book club starting at 6:00 pm. We have a physical copy (get on that holds list!), eBook on CloudLibrary, and audiobook on Hoopla Digital .
At 7:00 pm, we’ll hear Kristen in conversation with local book influencer Maddy, followed by a chance to meet the author and get your book signed. You can bring your own copy or buy one from that evening.
Register for your free ticket today at nfpl.info/OBON
One Book One Niagara gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Niagara Community Foundation .

Today we're taking a look back at Rosbergs. Who remembers shopping there?
Jacob Rosberg immigrated to Niagara Falls from Poland in 1913 and opened a men’s clothing store in the city in October 1919. The store, located at the corner of Erie Avenue and Queen Street, expanded to incorporate the Lundy Block.
Multiple expansions over the years created a 60,000 square foot store with three floors, housing 14 different departments such as men’s wear, ladies fashion, accessories, and cosmetics. Rosbergs also provided shoppers with the city’s first free parking lot, acquiring the Michigan Central Railway station after its demolition in 1940.
Rosbergs was known as a great place to work, with most of their employees staying on for decades. Part of that may have been because it was a family run business for three generations. First by Jacob Rosberg, then his two sons, Harold and Joseph. Don Carrel, the grandson of Jacob Rosberg, was the last of the family to run the department store before it closed in 1988 as shopping malls grew in popularity.
Rosbergs was demolished in 2009 after a fire destroyed the vacant building. The Rosberg Family Park on Erie Avenue and Queen Street, south of the former department store, is dedicated to the Rosberg Family and all they contributed to our community.

A new month means a new art exhibit! 📸
October’s exhibit at Victoria Avenue library is called Two's Company and is a collection of photographic art by David and Janice Low. It follows the discipline of finding unique venues and subject matter not usually captured in a photographic art collection. The show’s images range from rodeo figures and the beauty of hoar frost to discoveries of everyday subjects portrayed artistically, such as Garden of the Gods, back lane graffiti and a “fire breathing horse”.
The artists’ emails are posted in-gallery for questions or if you wish to explore the purchase of a piece.
You can view the collection at the library until October 29.
