Leduc RCMP have received complaints from residents of door-to-door salespeople using high-pressure tactics, persistent unwanted solicitations, and individuals refusing to leave premises when asked.
Leduc RCMP want to remind the public of their rights as consumers, and tips to protect themselves and their homes.
πͺ Always request to see company-issued photo identification before engaging in conversation or opening your door.
πͺ Refuse any transactions, donations, or signatures unless the individual provides legitimate, official credentials that can be verified independently.
πͺ Never feel pressured. Legitimate businesses will always allow you time to research products, verify credentials, and think over a decision.
πͺ Keep doors secured. You are under no obligation to open your door to strangers or invite sales representatives inside your home.
πͺ Never pay cash upfront. Be extremely cautious of sales reps demanding cash deposits or immediate upfront payments before any work or service begins.
If a salesperson becomes hostile, refuses to leave your property when instructed, or acts suspiciously, do not engage further. Immediately contact the RCMP non-emergency line at 310-RCMP (310-7267 across Alberta). If you feel threatened, unsafe, or believe a crime is in progress, call 911 immediately. π±
If you suspect fraudulent door-to-door activity, report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (1-888-495-8501) and Service Alberta Consumer Investigations. You can also verify whether a direct-selling company is legally licensed in Alberta by contacting the Service Alberta Consumer Contact Centre at 1-877-427-4088.
