The Downtown Gallery Hop is a free arts event hosted by galleries, shops and artists. How does this happen? Stay tuned for 2017 dates and locations.

Presented by Creative Industries North Bay, and Downtown North Bay & Waterfront. North Bay’s Downtown Gallery Hop is an event that brings culture and excitement to our community. Local galleries, artists, art lovers and businesses come together to provide special nights for our community to experience all the art downtown North Bay has to offer. Downtown arts venues have receptions, events and promotions, all of which are open to the general public! The Downtown Gallery Hop is organized by a committee of volunteers who hold regular free events in North Bay's downtown core.

Check out the North Bay Museum during Downtown Gallery hop this Friday! Currently on display is “An Educator’s Passion,” curated by Dr. Kurt Clause, featuring 100-year-old photographs and equipment used by Harry Ricker, a naturalist and teacher at the historic North Bay Normal School, a precursor to what eventually became Nipissing University. The exhibit also highlights the ancestors of local birds, posed in action by Chief Ernest Couchie, the first known Nbisiing taxidermist.

Visit White Water Gallery this Friday for the hop! Currently on display is What We Make of the Dark by Schem Rogerson Bader & Terre Chartrand.

These works are created to explore loss and grief. Bader treats disillusion not as an endpoint, but as a condition produced by late capitalism. Images, bodies, and objects circulate through cycles of production, use, abandonment, and return. Modernity’s false promise of progress and its failure to deliver are wounds we live with. Exploitation and violence are implicit in advantage. These cycles are entangled: care and depletion, and rhythms of attachment and discard.
