OCUFA‘s Lobby Day at Queen’s Park continued today as NUFA president Robin Gendron met with MPPs Sheref Sabawy, John Fraser, Sol Mamakwa, and Peggy Sattler to advocate for stable, continuing funding for post-secondary education in Ontario.

Universities in Ontario need adequate support so we can keep providing an excellent quality of education to students while also pursuing careers as educators that are sustainable and rewarding. These needs are especially pressing for northern universities like Nipissing U where students are struggling with the cost of education and faculty are stretched thinner each year as a result of chronic underfunding.

Long-term, stable funding for public universities is needed for universities to grow and students to thrive. NUFA president Robin Gendron is at Queen’s Park today with OCUFA to advocate for an education system that provides affordable, accessible study opportunities for students, and stable, rewarding careers for faculty.

Robin met with MPP Lorne Coe, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security to urge investment in Ontario’s universities now and for the future.

NUFA is hiring! We are looking for a motivated and responsible individual to join our staff on a continuing, part-time basis.

The position is for an administrative assistant who will work in the NUFA Office on the Nipissing University campus up to 20 hours per week. Reporting to the President of NUFA, the position involves providing administrative support to NUFA’s President, the Executive Committee and the Executive Officer, support and communication services for NUFA’s approximately 140 full-time and 300 part-time faculty, website maintenance, and other duties as outlined more fully in the job description (linked in bio).

FUND STUDENTS: FUND THE FUTURE! Next Thursday, November 5, many of our students will be participating in a provincial walk out in protest of recent changes to post-secondary education, including the removal of the tuition freeze, cuts to OSAP grants, and changes to ancillary fee funding.

Faculty at Nipissing U should know that NUFA’s executive team passed the following motion: “That the NUFA executive affirms its support for Nipissing University Student Union • NUSU and their protest actions on October 21 and November 5, 2026, and further that NUFA encourages its members to work with students to facilitate their attendance if they wish to participate in these protests.”

Faculty: Attend the protest if you are able!

And come by the NUFA office to pick up a “Fund Students Fund the Future” button to wear in solidarity! ✊💙💚

Huge congratulations to Katrina Srigley and Glenna Beaucage on the publication of their new book, Gaa Bi Kidwaad Maa Nbiising Nishnaabeg / Stories of the Original People of Lake Nipissing, published by UMP

Sharing the history of Nbiising Nishnaabeg (the people of Nipissing First Nation) from the perspectives of the community, the land, and the lake that holds their name, this social and cultural history explores themes of creation and language; women and gender; family, community, and nation; governance and education; and land and water through the dbaajmowinan (everyday stories) and aansokanan (sacred stories) of Nbiising.

NUFA members were honoured to join NUSU and Nipissing U students who participated in the October 21 Campus Walkout, a movement launched by the Canadian Federation of Students, Ontario CFS Ontario // FCÉÉ Ontario

Students across Ontario are tired of cuts to funding, cuts to programs and services, increased student debt, rising tuition fees, and the cost of living crisis.
They are calling for an education system that is accessible, high-quality, and democratic.
