North Vancouver RCMP Emergency: 9-1-1
Non-Emergency: 604-985-1311
Online Reporting: https://bit.ly/3XNN9Sw

The North Vancouver RCMP is located in the heart of North Vancouver, which is situated on the North Shore of the Port of Vancouver, on Burrard Inlet, across from downtown Vancouver and Stanley Park. North Vancouver is located on the unceded traditional territory territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. North Vancouver is comprised of two municipalities, the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver, and five First Nations Bands. The District of North Vancouver surrounds the City, however, North Vancouver is policed as one whole area. The North Vancouver RCMP polices four of the reserves and the fifth is policed by the West Vancouver Police Department. The North Vancouver RCMP is committed to building a safer community through partnerships with local businesses, residents, government and First Nations agencies. The RCMP boasts robust and active community involvement in its crime reduction strategies. North Vancouver's strong sense of community makes it not only one of the best places in the world to live, but also a fantastic place to work as a police agency.

Last week, our Traffic Unit stopped a driver travelling 172 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 1 westbound, 92 km/h over the limit. Their explanation? They were trying to pass traffic to make the Westview exit and the downhill slope apparently helped pick up their speed.

The driver received a $483 excessive speeding ticket, a $109 unsafe lane change ticket and a 7-day vehicle impound.

Missing an exit isn't worth putting others at risk. Slow down and drive safely.

🎃 No tricks, just a few tips for a safe Halloween!

Keep safety part of the plan: be safe, be seen, know your local fireworks restrictions and make responsible choices.

145 km/h in a 70 zone. That’s no small overshoot.

This past weekend, one of our officers stopped a driver travelling westbound off the Second Narrows Bridge at 75 km/h over the posted speed limit.

The result? A $483 ticket and a 7-day vehicle impound.

Getting where you’re going a little faster isn’t worth the risk. At those speeds, things can go wrong in a hurry, and it’s not just your own safety on the line.

RCMP remind residents of fireworks restrictions ahead of Halloween, urge safe and responsible behaviour

File #2026

With Halloween approaching, the North Vancouver RCMP is reminding residents to follow local fireworks laws and take precautions to keep the community safe.

- Fireworks are prohibited in the City of North Vancouver and on Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) lands.

- The North Vancouver District and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) require permits for fireworks, with use subject to local restrictions. Always check with your municipality or Nation for details on restrictions and permit requirements.

Violating local fireworks laws can result in fines or charges, while misuse can cause serious injuries and property damage.

“It’s important to remember that fireworks don’t just affect the person setting them off. The noise can be frightening for children and pets and bystanders can be injured through no fault of their own,” says Cst. Paul Reece of the North Vancouver RCMP Youth Support Team. “We’re asking all residents to follow local restrictions and consider how their actions affect others in the community.”

North Vancouver RCMP will have additional resources on shift over the Halloween weekend. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to discuss Halloween plans and expectations with their children. Reckless or destructive behaviour can put others at risk of injury and lead to criminal charges.

Residents who witness fireworks being used illegally or unsafely can report their concerns to police.

- Call 604-985-1311 for non-emergency matters.

- If a crime is in progress, someone is in immediate danger or a serious crime has just occurred and a suspect may still be nearby, call 911.

Residents are also encouraged to use the RCMP Online Crime reporting tool to avoid long wait times on the non-emergency line. Any resident of North Vancouver can use online crime reporting if the incident took place within the jurisdiction of the North Vancouver RCMP.

Helping everyone enjoy a safe Halloween

- Go trick-or-treating with a trusted adult or in a group.

- Choose familiar routes with good lighting, sidewalks and marked crosswalks.

- Carry a flashlight and wear bright clothing or reflective accessories so drivers can see you.

- Avoid masks that limit visibility.

- Make sure children have emergency contact information with them.

- Save the treats for home, after they have been inspected by an adult.

- Leave imitation weapons at home.

- Keep pets in a comfortable, secure indoor space, away from the noise and activity outside.
