🇨🇦 CBSA investigation uncovers an alleged immigration fraud scheme involving 209 Bangladeshi nationals and 243 temporary resident visa applications.

The investigation revealed that fraudulent documents and false statements were allegedly used to help foreign nationals obtain Canadian visitor visas by presenting Canadian citizens as hosts.

Following searches in Quebec and Ontario, five individuals were implicated in the scheme. Four appeared in court on October 22, 2026, while a fifth individual is reportedly in Bangladesh, with a warrant issued for his arrest.

The accused face charges related to conspiracy, immigration misrepresentation, and violations of Canada's immigration laws. The charges remain subject to validation by the court.

🇨🇦 According to The Globe and Mail, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador are pushing Ottawa for greater control over immigration, including more Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allocations to address local labour shortages.

Both provinces argue that they understand their workforce needs and want greater flexibility to attract immigrants who can fill job vacancies, support rural communities and sustain population growth.

The push comes as Alberta also seeks more say over which newcomers can settle in the province, while Ottawa prepares to announce new permanent resident targets and provincial nomination allocations.

However, critics warn that giving provinces more control could create a fragmented and complicated immigration system.

🇨🇦 Canada’s immigration numbers are changing significantly in 2026!

According to the latest figures from the Government of Canada, new international student and temporary worker arrivals fell by 63% between January and August 2026, compared with the same period in 2024, a decrease of 326,900 arrivals.

📊 Here are the key numbers you need to know:

🎓 International students
• 65,240 new student arrivals from January to August 2026
• 71% fewer arrivals compared with the same period in 2024
• 155,000 student arrivals target for 2026

💼 Temporary foreign workers
• 130,095 new worker arrivals from January to August 2026
• 57% fewer arrivals compared with the same period in 2024
• 230,000 worker arrivals target for 2026

📌 Canada has also committed to reducing its temporary population to less than 5% of the total population by the end of 2027.

Meanwhile, 153,005 former temporary residents became permanent residents between January and August 2026, accounting for 58% of all new permanent residents during that period.

With tighter study permit rules, changes to work permit eligibility, and continued efforts to manage temporary resident numbers, Canada’s immigration landscape is evolving.
