As Ottawa heads closer to winter, advocates, service providers, and community members are raising concerns about Centre 454's January 31, 2027 relocation deadline.

Our newest story shares the perspective of Mark MacDonald, a former Centre 454 participant and housing advocate whose lived experience underscores the life-saving importance of accessible day programs.

Centre 454 has served more than 113,000 meals since June 2025 while providing access to showers, laundry, community, and critical supports. As the search for a suitable new location continues, we are calling on City leaders to extend the relocation deadline and ensure a safe, responsible transition.

Ride for Refuge 2026 Recap 🚲👟

This past Saturday, participants, volunteers, parish friends, and community supporters came together for Belong Ottawa’s second annual Ride for Refuge, raising awareness and critical funds to support Centre 454.

Whether you rode, walked, volunteered, donated, or cheered from the sidelines, your support helped make the day a success. Together, we celebrated the power of community and our shared commitment to creating belonging for people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and social isolation.

A special thank you to our team captains, riders, walkers, volunteers, sponsors, and donors who helped make this event possible. Your generosity will have a meaningful impact on the individuals we serve every day.

To allow our teams to come together for a staff meeting, program hours will be adjusted on Tuesday, October 6.

🔹 All programs will close at 1:00 p.m. 🔹 The Well will reopen at 4:00 p.m.

Please note that Centre 454 and St Luke's Table will remain open during their regularly scheduled staff meeting days this week, operating from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remember the children who never returned home, honour residential school Survivors, and acknowledge the strength of Indigenous families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of this history.

In the housing and homelessness sector, including Belong Ottawa, we see how the ongoing effects of colonization continue to shape the realities of many people in our community, including the disproportionate challenges Indigenous peoples face in accessing safe, stable housing and essential supports. We recognize that reconciliation requires more than reflection: It calls for listening, learning, building relationships, and taking meaningful action throughout the year.

We invite our community to learn from Indigenous voices, deepen understanding of the truth of residential schools, and consider the role each of us can play in advancing reconciliation.

⚠ Centre 454 will be closed this Wednesday, September 30 for essential maintenance. The Well and St Luke's Table will be open for regular hours: The Well is open from 8am to 12:30pm for women and gender-diverse individuals then 12:30pm to 8pm for all, and St Luke's Table is open from 8am to 3pm!

Each day, we walk alongside community members facing homelessness and precarious housing. Events like this reinforce the importance of coming together to advocate for affordable housing, strengthen community connections, and ensure everyone has the opportunity to belong and thrive.
