This week's is the American toad. 🐸 In Ontario, you'll find only two toad species. American toads are found in a wide variety of terrestrial habitats, from gardens to heavily forested areas. Their thick skin helps prevent dehydration and allows them to use drier habitats.

🔎 Fun Fact: People cannot get warts from touching toads. In fact, the bumps on the skin of toads are not warts at all.

Today is 🐢 Did you know that Ontario is home to eight native species of turtles? May to October is their most active time, with peak nesting season being in June. Female turtles will often cross busy and dangerous roads to find the perfect nesting spot. Turtles are also vital to our wetland health, helping to keep water clean and dispersing seeds to promote new plant growth. 🌿 Fitzroy is home to lots of turtles, so keep your eyes peeled on your next visit, and slow down in case you find one crossing the road!
