🇮🇪🇨🇦 The Embassy of Ireland is delighted to celebrate the announcement of the inaugural cohort of the 18 De Chastelain Scholars.

Named in honour of General John de Chastelain and his pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process, the programme supports research that advances more peaceful, inclusive and sustainable societies.

Selected through a highly competitive process, the first cohort brings together 18 outstanding scholars from Ireland and Canada. Through research exchanges and collaboration, they will strengthen academic and institutional links across 25 partner institutions on the island of Ireland and across Canada.

We are particularly pleased to see Indigenous scholars participating in the programme and collaborating with research partners in both countries, further deepening the people-to-people connections at the heart of the Ireland-Canada relationship.

Congratulations to all those selected. We look forward to following the impact of their research and the partnerships that will grow from this initiative.

Minister Marc Miller’s Culture and Creative Industries Mission to Ireland 🇮🇪🇨🇦

A great week for Ireland–Canada relations as Canada’s Minister for Culture and Identity, Minister Marc Miller, and a senior Canadian cultural delegation visited Ireland to strengthen partnerships across culture, heritage and the creative industries.

Building on the recent visit of the Taoiseach and Prime Minister Mark Carney, the mission helped advance the new Ireland–Canada Strategic Partnership while deepening collaboration and progressing preparations for Canada Ireland 180 in 2027.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the visit such a success.

🇮🇪🇪🇺🇨🇦 The Embassy of Ireland to Canada was delighted to host a special reception to mark Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union (July–December 2026).

We were honoured to welcome leaders from across Canadian public life, the diplomatic corps, business, culture and the Irish diaspora to celebrate Ireland’s Presidency.

A highlight of the evening was a beautiful performance of Ode to Joy by the “Note Verbale” EU Ambassadors’ Choir, accompanied by a string quartet of students from Deanna McDougall School of Music, all studying at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Their performance marked the launch of a special initiative that will see the music of Ode to Joy shared with music schools across Canada, encouraging young musicians nationwide to learn and perform it in celebration of Ireland’s Presidency.

Guests also enjoyed wonderful performances by Dan Dunlop and his band, together with talented traditional Irish musicians from Comhaltas Ottawa, making for an evening of friendship, culture and conversation.

Ireland’s Presidency will focus on three key priorities: Competitiveness, Values and Security, under the guiding spirit of “Ní neart go cur le chéile” — There is no strength without unity.
