Tunney's Toastmasters

Today was a particularly sad day as Tunney’s Toastmasters held its last membership meeting.

Over the next month or so there will be some lunch and learn sessions available to current and past members.

Over the past twelve and a half years we achieved many things individually and as a club.

Four times we achieved Presidents Distinguished.

One of our founding members earned her DTM.

Another was recognized as President of the year by District 61.

One member was asked to serve as an Area Director and another as both an Area and District Director.

One member finished in 3rd place at the Worlds Championship of Public Speaking.

Many members completed their Competent Communicator and Leader manuals, pathways, achieved their language levels required for their jobs and some were able to gain skills needed to improve their careers.

If you were one of the 167 , who passed through our club, thank you for your membership and participation.

If you were one of many who took the extra step and served on the executive, thank you for your hard work, creativity and dedication to the incredible organization.

Whatever you choose to do from here on in, do it with passion and set your aim high.

With this in mind , how can you not consider Toastmasters as part of your solution to stay relevant in today’s changing workplace.

Every year I post this but it is worth repeating. This month thousands of students will be graduating from high schools, colleges and universities. The one thing for sure is whatever level they obtain, their learning, their education never ends. While specialized study is value, the soft skills, public speaking, leadership, being able to fit in and work effectively in a team environment is invaluable.

If you have a child, sibling, niece, nephew, grandchild graduating this year one of the best things you can do for them is to suggest Toastmasters.

Public speaking is a skill not taught extensively in the education system. When it is, it is casually glossed over. Because of that the same ineffective techniques are allowed to be repeated again and again.
