On 4 June, Ukraine commemorates the memory of children whose lives were taken as a result of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
For more than 12 years, Ukrainian children have suffered from Russian aggression. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, they have become targets of a systematic policy of terror, deportation, forced assimilation, militarisation, and the erasure of Ukrainian identity.
One of Russia’s gravest crimes remains the illegal deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children. Russia conceals information about their whereabouts, alters their personal data, imposes Russian citizenship, places children in Russian families and state institutions, and subjects them to ideological indoctrination, militarisation, and forced Russification.
Through the President of Ukraine’s Bring Kids Back UA initiative, and in cooperation with state institutions, civil society, and international partners, Ukraine is building a comprehensive system for the identification, return, rehabilitation, and reintegration of children affected by Russian aggression.
An important instrument in these efforts is the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, co-chaired by Ukraine and Canada. It coordinates international efforts related to locating children, ensuring their safe return and reintegration, documenting crimes, strengthening sanctions pressure, and holding perpetrators accountable.
The MFA of Ukraine calls on the international community to intensify political, diplomatic, sanctions, and legal pressure on Russia.
We urge partners to strengthen support for the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children. We also call on states and international organisations to maintain and strengthen sanctions against all individuals and entities involved in the illegal deportation, forced transfer, militarisation, indoctrination, and illegal adoption of Ukrainian children.
We remember every child whose life was taken by Russia.
We fight for every child whom Russia seeks to take away from Ukraine.
We will bring every Ukrainian child home.

On June 1, the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada welcomed participants of the 18th Summer School in International Humanitarian Law uOttawa to discuss the humanitarian consequences of Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine and the vital role of international humanitarian law in protecting civilians, including children and prisoners of war.
Addressing participants, Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Andrii Plakhotniuk emphasized that, at the background of Russia’s war of aggression, strict adherence to international law and international humanitarian law remains of critical importance. Ukraine continues to unwaveringly uphold these principles despite Russia’s systematic violations, including brutal attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The discussion also highlighted the essential importance for advancing international accountability efforts for Russia’s war crimes, securing along with the initiative of the President of Ukraine Bring Kids Back UA the return of Ukrainian children, unlawfully deported to the Russian Federation or forcibly transferred to the temporary occupied territory of Ukraine, releasing all prisoners of war and unlawfully detained civilians as well as preventing the erosion of respect for international law through impunity for violations.
Ambassador Plakhotniuk expressed gratitude to the Canadian Red Cross for allocating more than CAD 200 million in support of projects for Ukraine, demonstrating Canada’s continued commitment to humanitarian assistance and recovery efforts.
The Ambassador of Ukraine also expressed hope that international organizations will fully exercise their mandates and intensify efforts to secure the return of Ukrainian children, prisoners of war, and detained civilians from Russian captivity, ensuring their full reintegration and rehabilitation.
Andrii Plakhotniuk thanked the Canadian Red Cross, the University of Ottawa, and the organizers of the Summer School for creating a space where future lawyers, policymakers, and humanitarian professionals can engage with these critical issues.
As Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty and freedom, it also stands for the preservation of a rules-based international order, where respect for international law is upheld in order to achieve comprehensive, just, and lasting peace.

On the night of June 2, Russia launched another large-scale attack against Ukraine.
In Kyiv, Russian attack killed four people and injured at least 58, including three children. The strikes damaged residential buildings and civilian infrastructure across several districts of the capital. A nine-storey residential building was hit, causing the partial collapse of its upper floors. Emergency services continue to search the rubble as people may still be trapped underneath.
In the Dnipro region, seven people were killed and 35 injured in Russian attacks on residential areas in Dnipro and Kamianske. Among them are 3 kids. During rescue operations following the initial strike, Russia launched a second attack that killed a rescuer. Search and rescue operations continue.
In the Kharkiv region, Russian attack injured at least 14 people, including a child. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged in several communities across the region.
In the Chernihiv region, a 15-year-old boy was injured. Among the damaged facilities are warehouses, a school and private homes.
Russia continues to wage war against civilians. More pressure on the aggressor, stronger sanctions, and more support for Ukraine’s air defence are needed to save lives.

Є концерти, після яких пам’ятаєш окремі пісні. А є концерти, після яких залишається відчуття впевненості в майбутньому України.
Саме таким став сьогоднішній виступ Ottawa Ukrainian Children's Choir "Ukrainian Spring Mystery" .

During May 27–28, 2026, Ottawa hosted , Canada’s largest defence, security, and emerging technologies exhibition, bringing together government representatives, military leaders, industry stakeholders, and innovators from around the world.
Ukraine was represented by a number of Ukrainian defence manufacturers and technology companies, showcasing innovative solutions developed and tested on the battlefield during Russia’s ongoing full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine.
The participation of Ukrainian companies at CANSEC reflects the increasing potential for Canada–Ukraine cooperation in the defence and security sector.
This growing cooperation was further reinforced during CANSEC by the announcement of a new Canada–Ukraine defence industry partnership - a clear example of a mutually beneficial collaboration that advances Ukraine’s defence needs while creating new opportunities for Canada’s defence industry. The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine Міністерство оборони України, and the Department of National Defence of Canada signed an arrangement supporting the production of Ukrainian uncrewed aerial systems in Canada, establishing the Airlogix–Sentinel partnership between Ukrainian defence technology company Airlogix and Canadian manufacturer Sentinel Research and Development (https://tinyurl.com/mpras7wc, https://tinyurl.com/49nxyk7t).
The Embassy of Ukraine in Canada was pleased and honoured to support Ukrainian participants and facilitate engagement with Canadian partners, industry representatives, and government stakeholders.
We thank the organizers of CANSEC 2026, the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI), for providing an important platform to strengthen international cooperation and advance innovation in support of global security.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Canada extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.
Founded in 1995 during the 18th Ukrainian Canadian Congress, the Canada-Ukraine Foundation has become one of the leading pillars of support for Ukraine and Ukrainians, uniting Canadians from coast to coast to coast in a shared commitment to humanitarian assistance and solidarity.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Andrii Plakhotniuk was pleased to attend the Foundation’s 30th anniversary gala in Toronto, which celebrated three decades of Canadian generosity and dedication to Ukraine.
Over the past thirty years, the Canada-Ukraine Foundation has implemented countless impactful initiatives that have improved lives, strengthened communities, and deepened the ties between Canada and Ukraine. From the Canada Ukraine Surgical Aid Program and humanitarian assistance projects to support for Ukraine’s veterans, children affected by Russia’s war, Holodomor education and remembrance initiatives, the international Bring Kids Back UA effort, and its partnership with Cowater International in supporting the completion of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide in Kyiv, the Foundation has consistently demonstrated leadership, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to Ukraine.
Since January 2022 alone, through the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, the Foundation, together with the UCC National - Ukrainian Canadian Congress, has raised and delivered more than $100 million in humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, helping provide critical support to those affected by Russia’s full-scale invasion.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Foundation’s leadership, Maleckyj, Valeriy Kostyuk, staff, volunteers, donors, and partners whose dedication has made this remarkable legacy possible.
