Be part of an education session where people with dementia and their caregivers can learn side by side. 👥

First Connections is The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County's two-part educational series designed to help caregivers and people living with dementia learn together.

This program is dementia friendly. That means it’s presented in an inclusive, supportive atmosphere where information is shared clearly and at a slower pace. Extra time is offered for questions, reflection, and meaningful participation.

In this series, you will:
• Learn about early-stage dementia and how it affects the brain
• Build strategies to manage emotions and navigate challenges
• Connect with others and access helpful resources and supports

First Connections is presented in English. Premières connexions is the same program offered in French.

Participez à une séance éducative où les personnes vivant avec la démence et leurs proches aidants peuvent apprendre main dans la main. 🤲

Premières connexions est une série éducative en deux parties conçue pour aider les proches aidants et les personnes vivant avec la démence à apprendre ensemble.

Ce programme est adapté aux personnes atteintes de démence. Cela signifie qu’il se déroule dans une atmosphère inclusive et bienveillante, où les informations sont transmises clairement et à un rythme plus lent. Du temps supplémentaire est prévu pour les questions, la réflexion et une participation constructive.

Dans cette série, vous pourrez :
• En savoir plus sur la démence à un stade précoce et sur ses effets sur le cerveau
• Élaborer des stratégies pour gérer les émotions et surmonter les difficultés
• Entrer en contact avec d’autres personnes et accéder à des ressources et à des soutiens utiles

Premières connexions est présenté en français. First Connections est le même programme proposé en anglais.

The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County truly appreciated the warm welcome and generosity from everyone at All Seniors Care Living Centres Résidence Chapel Hill Retirement Residence during our “Let’s Talk About Dementia” presentation there June 3.

Through a 50/50 draw, a gift basket raffle and playing ‘donation Bingo’, the residents there raised $418 to support people living with dementia and their caregivers. We’re so grateful for everyone’s efforts.

In the attached image, residents Ghislaine and Bill, along with Chapel Hill Residence Health and Wellness Director Allison Boraman, present the donation cheque to Dementia Society volunteer Jennifer Imerson (who delivered the presentation).

We’re always happy to share information about dementia and ways to support people living with dementia and their caregivers.

We’re looking forward to the upcoming sessions at Résidence Cité Parkway Retirement Residence June 9 and Résidence Beacon Heights Retirement Residence June 10!

La Société de la démence d’Ottawa et du comté de Renfrew a apprécié l’accueil chaleureux et la générosité de tout le personnel de la résidence All Seniors Care Chapel Hill lors de notre présentation « Parlons de la démence » (en anglais), qui s’y est tenue le 3 juin.

Grâce à un tirage 50/50, à une tombola de paniers-cadeaux et à un « bingo de dons », les résidents ont récolté 418 $ pour venir en aide aux personnes atteintes de démence et à leurs aidants. Nous sommes très reconnaissants des efforts de chacun.

Sur la photo ci-jointe, les résidents Ghislaine et Bill, en compagnie d’Allison Boraman, directrice de la santé et du bien-être de la résidence Chapel Hill, remettent le chèque de don à Jennifer Imerson, bénévole de la Société de la démence (qui a animé la présentation).

Nous sommes toujours ravis de partager des informations sur la démence et sur les moyens de soutenir les personnes vivant avec la démence et leurs proches aidants.

Nous attendons avec impatience les prochaines sessions à la Cité Parkway le 9 juin et à Beacon Heights le 10 juin !

The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County's Daisy Café and Cafe Marguérite offer meaningful activities for people living with mild cognitive impairment or early stage dementia, including games, music, art, and gentle movement in a comfortable group setting.

☺️While participants enjoy social connection and engaging activities, caregivers have a chance to connect with others, access resources, or take a short break.☺️

Daisy Café is facilitated in English while Café Marguerite is in French.

Please note that Daisy Café and Café Marguérite are each two-session programs. Participants are asked to commit to attending both sessions so that the group can get to know each other and encourage connection.

Are you a caregiver of someone living with dementia in the County of Renfrew? “Supporting Dementia” is coming to Arnprior in June.

The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County’s “Supporting Dementia” education series is for caregivers who want to bolster their knowledge of dementia and expand their support skills.

Over the course of this free, 2-part series, you will learn:
🧠 about dementia, its stages and symptoms,
📈how the brain changes affect a person’s abilities, and
💬strategies for communicating and responding to changing and challenging behaviours.

This free, in-person series is being offered in Arnprior 10 a.m. until noon Monday June 1 and Monday June 8 at the Arnprior Public Library, Madawaska St.

At 100 years old, Roy Allen is demonstrating the power of purpose, determination and community support with his every step.

With one week to go as he works toward becoming the first centenarian to complete the 5K at Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend, Roy is also shining a light on the difference that care, connection and community can make for older adults and their families by raising money for the local organizations that helped him.

We’re so proud that The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County is one of the organizations benefiting from Roy’s incredible efforts. Alors qu’il s’efforce de devenir le premier centenaire à terminer le 5 km de la Fin de semaine des courses Tamarack d'Ottawa 2026 la semaine prochaine, Roy met également en lumière l’importance que peuvent avoir l’attention, les liens sociaux et la communauté pour les personnes âgées et leurs familles en collectant des fonds pour les associations locales qui l'ont aidé.

Nous sommes très fiers que la Société de la démence d’Ottawa et du comté de Renfrew fasse partie des organismes qui bénéficient des efforts incroyables de Roy.
