It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Peter Anthony Morgan, better known as "Peetah," the lead vocalist of Morgan Heritage. Peetah, a son of the renowned Jamaican reggae singer Denroy Morgan, co-founded Morgan Heritage with his siblings in 1994. Christmas Message:
Her Excellency Sharon J Miller
High Commissioner for Jamaica

My fellow Jamaicans, as the days shorten and the temperature dips, we enter into the most joy-filled time of the year, when, for many of us, we celebrate the coming of the Christ-child, whose birth provides us with hope for a future of peace and goodwill for all.

As we admire the twinkling lights and enjoy the northern climes, many will recall the heartwarming sights, sounds, smells and tastes of a good old-fashioned Jamaican Christmas, which evoke memories of a time that was far less complex and complicated than today.

We reminisce on the lessons learnt of the importance of family, the camaraderie of neighbours, and caring for those whose circumstances place them in vulnerable situations. In such moments, we pause to give thanks for our many blessings and strive to be active participants in making Christmas merry and bright for our families, friends, neighbours and those we encounter on our life’s journey.

I take this opportunity to express appreciation to the Honorary Consuls, the Jamaican Associations across Canada, members of our Diaspora, the Jamaica Tourist Board Regional Office, and Jamaican businesses in Canada for their unwavering support in commemorating our Diamond Anniversary of Independence.

Members of our Diaspora and friends across Canada took to heart our Independence theme and increase their strides towards re-igniting the indomitable Jamaican spirit. We will undoubtedly continue to work towards the realisation of this great endeavour, and I look forward to your collaboration in 2023, as we seek to make Jamaica the place of choice to live, work, raise families and do business.

From my home to yours, I send warm Yuletide greetings for a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2023!
