We want to share some exciting news as we prepare for the 2022 cohort of Youth Futures participants and mentors. RBC Foundation and Launch has committed $150,000 for two years towards the Youth Futures Program. RBC Future Launch is dedicated to help young people access meaningful employment through practical work experience, skills development, networking, and access to mental well-being supports and services. They want young people to feel better prepared for the future of work through programming and resources that keep them ready for the future.
Last week we celebrated the 2021 cohort of Youth Futures participants. We are so incredibly proud of each and every one of them for overcoming the adversity of these unprecedented times. We are amazed by their commitment and hard work to complete the program. Youth Futures breaks down barriers to post-secondary education and employment faced by marginalized youth in Ottawa and is delivered at no charge to participants. The commitment from RBC will allow us to provide more focused skills development, mentorship and leadership opportunities to future Youth Future participants.
Thank you RBC. We are excited to be a part of the and working with your organization to help youth in our Ottawa community prepare for post secondary education and secure meaningful employment opportunities.

STAPLES/KIWANIS – 2020 START TO SMART SCHOOL DRIVE
On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa West and the management team of South Keys Staples met to celebrate the handing over of 17 Chromebooks to both the Ottawa-East and the Carlington Community Health Centres to be donated to children living in Ottawa Community Housing . This is the culmination of the first Staples/Kiwanis joint project launched in 2020 called “Start to Smart School” in which Staples matched all their Ontario Stores with a Kiwanis club in a joint effort to collect funds at their cash registers on behalf of the local Kiwanis Club. In this joint “Back to School” program to help children have tools necessary for them to learn, theKiwanis Club of Ottawa West was matched with the South Keys Staples store. Theyhanded over to Ottawa West gift cards in the amount of $5,589.10 which allowed us to purchase the 17 Chromebooks. Undoubtedly, this was a win win project for the children, both Community Health Centres, Staples, Kiwanis clubs and Ottawa Housing Foundation. We certainly look forward to joining Staples in thismeaningful fun-venture next year.
