Congratulations on the gold, Leijonat.fi!🇫🇮🥇

The World Champions returned to Finland earlier today escorted by the Finnish Air Force F/A-18s. Upon arrival to Helsinki airport, the Finnair plane carrying the champions received a water salute to mark the occasion.

Before heading to the national celebration, the gold medalists were congratulated by the President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb. Over 70 000 people gathered in Helsinki to celebrate the gold with the team! While the town squares of Finland are a bit far for us, we wouldn't miss the opportunity to celebrate here!

CANSEC, Canada's leading event on defence, security and emerging technologies took place in Ottawa this week. Finland’s delegation led by Ambassador Hanna-Leena Korteniemi, Vesa Virtanen, Lieutenant General, Chief of Defence Command of the Finnish Defence Forces and Juha Helle, Colonel, Finland’s Defence Attaché accredited to Canada, showcased Finnish innovation, solutions and world-class technologies.

The Finnish companies and industry leaders bring globally recognized expertise in:

* Shipbuilding and maritime engineering
* Secure communications networks
* Space technologies and satellite applications
* Autonomous and high-mobility systems for extreme environments

Events like CANSEC are catalysts for even stronger bilateral relations between our countries. 🇫🇮🇨🇦 They offer valuable opportunities to deepen collaboration, strengthen security ties and boost trade.

This week, the Embassy of Finland was pleased to partner with Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) and the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats (Hybrid CoE) on an executive-level course on building national resilience. The course focused on the whole-of-society approach with a number of Finnish and Canadian speakers.

In Finland, we rely on our Comprehensive Security Model which identifies 56 different strategic tasks. Every national model is unique and is based on individual country’s historical background and experience. Finland stands ready to share her valuable lessons and experience from our decades old and tested model.

So why does the Finnish comprehensive security model work?

It works because it is built on cooperation.
It works because it focuses on preparation, not just reaction.
It works because it adapts to new and evolving threats.
And perhaps most importantly, it works because it is people-centered.

Ambassador Korteniemi also spoke at a roundtable organized by the Institute for Collaborative Innovation about the role that citizens' organisations can play in building security and resilience. Additionally, she attended Joint Operations Symposium hosted by the Canadian Armed Forces. The theme was very fitting "All-Domain Defence of Canada and its Approaches".

Together with Canada we can collectively strengthen our systems, invest in preparedness and create environments where people can thrive.

It was a privilege to hear from the Artemis II crew at the National Arts Centre this afternoon. A truly inspiring discussion on collaboration, resilience, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Human curiosity has reached the dark side of the Moon, as have maple cookies!

A special moment to witness Canadian Space Agency astronauts Jeremy Hansen and Jenni Gibbons on stage! The crew captivated the audience and shared their truly unique perspectives and experiences. Space exploration is not just about technology; it is about cooperation, human connection, shared values, and as Jeremy put it, giving your energy toward the good.

Finland has a growing space sector, from cutting-edge space weather research to innovative nanosatellites, and we, like the Artemis crew, know that strong global partnerships are key to driving progress.
