As we move into Fall weather conditions, we are reminding motorists to be prepared before hitting the road. Colder weather and darker days often lead to less favourable driving conditions. Here are a few tips:

🛞 Consider all-weather or winter tires; all-season tires perform poorly in temperatures below 7°C. Note, some BC highways like Sea-to-Sky now require winter-rated tires.

💡 Make sure your headlights are working and are turned on. Daytime running lights may not suffice in lower light conditions.

⚠️ Slow down and give extra following distance; and
watch out for pedestrians, cyclists, and e-scooter operators, who are less visible in dark and wet conditions.

🍻 Plan a safe ride home – don’t drive if you’ve been drinking alcohol or using impairing substances.

✔️ And you can also check road conditions at drivebc.ca before you head out!

A youth was sent to hospital after being hit in the face by an exploding firework on Friday evening.

On October 2, 2026, around 8:20 p.m., a caller reported a group of youths setting off fireworks near the Port Moody Recreation Complex. Attending officers were surprised when they located a 12-year-old boy who had just been hit in the face by a firework set off by one of his friends. The boy’s friends fled from officers but were located a short distance away.

The injured boy was transported to hospital – his injuries are not life-threatening. The incident was determined to be accidental, however, the youth who set off the firework has been issued a $500 bylaw ticket.

The Port Moody Police Department typically sees increases of calls relating to fireworks during the month of October, though fireworks are banned year-round in City of Port Moody. Those who are caught violating the city’s fireworks bylaw may be subject to seizure and a violation ticket.

Here’s a glimpse of some files we handled last month:

•In the early hours of September 4, first responders were called to Noons Creek Drive for a report of a driver who lost control & collided with a parked, unoccupied tow truck (we recognize the irony). The driver sustained injuries and was transported to hospital - speed is suspected to be a factor in the collision [see image]. A separate tow truck was called to the scene.

•On Labour Day, we were called to an assault taking place on Murray Street. Officers learned the altercation took place over a parking spot. The instigator was arrested while the other party sustained injuries as a result. Numerous witnesses remained on scene and provided information to the attending officers which aided the investigation.

•On September 12 around 9 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle and observed illicit drugs in plain view. The driver was arrested and a search of the vehicle resulted in seizure of more drugs, cash, and hidden compartments - consistent with drug trafficking. The vehicle was seized for further analysis and the investigation remains open.

•In the evening of September 17, a male was reported to be walking on the train tracks near the Moody Overpass. Officers caught up with the male who was detained and became selectively mute. However, officers soon located identification on him, and learned he was wanted on a warrant. He was held in custody to see a judge.

•In the morning of September 23, officers were called for a report of a male who stole yogurt from a business. He was located by officers and arrested. He provided a false name - how ‘dairy’ he! Officers eventually determined his true identify through fingerprinting him and learned he was breaching various court-imposed conditions. He was also held in custody to be brought before a judge.

In 1998, the Federal government proclaimed the last Sunday of every September to be the Canadian Police & Peace Officer’s Memorial Day.

Today we stood shoulder to shoulder with Law Enforcement Officers from across the nation in both Ottawa & Victoria, to remember all of the fallen officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

We gathered out front of our headquarters this morning to take a moment to remember and reflect on 9/11. We remembered the 2,977 innocent lives taken and also paid tribute to the brave first responders who selflessly ran into danger 25 years ago, today.
