The Truemanville Fire Department recently received three battery-operated hydraulic rescue tools, including a spreader, cutter and telescopic ram.

These tools are replacing aging equipment that Truemanville Fire Department used for vehicle extraction.

These new tools are more efficient, reliable and lighter. Firefighters can operate these rescue tools for a longer period at emergency incidents.

The Truemanville Fire Department is one of the HUB stations and these new rescue tools will be available to assist with the local stations that fall under the HUB.

These rescue tools were purchased through the 2026-27 approved capital budget.

Chief Allen Fromm (left) and firefighter Chris Newman show the equipment purchased.

Oct. 4 to 10, 2026, is Fire Prevention Week.

This year’s theme, Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower, highlights how safe charging habits can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires at home.

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day, including cellphones, laptops, e-bikes, e-scooters, power tools, and toys. Knowing how to properly charge, use, store, and dispose of these batteries can help protect your home and family.

Simple steps can help reduce the risk of fire:

Buying new lithium-ion products—always stick with trusted brands and avoid cheap, off-brand products that may not meet safety standards. Devices without visible safety standard certification marks such as cUL, cELT or CSA may pose a higher risk of overheating, fire, or failure.

Cheap charger – don’t chance it: Use the cord and charger that comes with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.

Soft surface – hard pass: Charge devices on a hard, flat surface such as a table, desk or bare floor.

Fully charged – time to unplug: Unplug your device when it’s fully charged.

For tools and rides – charge outside: Charge larger items such as e-bikes, e-scooters and power tools away from doors, hallways and stairs. Follow all manufacturer instructions and never leave batteries and devices charging unattended.

Feels hot – stop using it: Stop using a device if it becomes very hot, starts to swell, smells strange, leaks, smokes or makes popping or hissing sounds.
Recycling your batteries responsibly—Never dispose of lithium-ion batteries in your regular waste or recycling collection.

Here's a message from the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE).

In the coming days, FORCE will deploying a FAST platform at the FORCE test area in support of the Ocean Sensor Innovation Platforms (OSIP) project.

This work is to test the capabilities of monitoring equipment and to trial platform positioning techniques. The platform is expected to be recovered 14 days from the deployment date.

You may see brief vessel activity during daylight hours, including placing and retrieving equipment. Work will take place only when weather and sea conditions are suitable. Operations will be conducted from the Nova Endeavour, operated by Huntley’s Diving and Marine.
