A HAPPENING TOWN … WHAT’S HAPPENING IN RED BAY ???

Good Morning Red Bay !!! 😊. What a wonderful day! Optimism abounds on this early November morning. Awesome things happening, not only in our beautiful little home, but clear across the world!

As indicated in a recent post on our page here, Red Bay is coming off a fantastic tourist season! So many wonderful things happening for so many wonderful people here in our community and region! Let me tell you about two awesome things coming up in the next ten days here in Red Bay!

Right now our town centre is being readied for “Merry Market 2026”. This event is put off by a committee of people that are doing outstanding work for you, our residents, this community, and this region. Red Bay’s Basqador Committee has done such phenomenal work over the last three years that it simply cannot be overstated. On Saturday, November 14th, the Selma Huxley Barkham Town Centre will be filled to maximum capacity with craft vendors offering their beautiful, one of a kind, creations to the public! We are literally booked solid for this annual event! All thanks to the awesome team of volunteers that are building a summer festival right here in Red Bay that is second to none! 😊. They are just off a super successful Basquador Days celebration in July of 2026, and plans and preparations are already moving ahead for Basquador Days 2027! It’ll be the best one yet I assure you!

But before that, (and this makes me about as excited, proud, and happy as I’ve been since moving back to my beautiful home three years ago)! After a series of awesome positive meetings of the Red Bay Fire Department, on November 12th at 2:00pm, the Red Bay Fire Hall will be open and alive with activity, as we familiarize new members, arrange/rearrange stalls and lockers, assign uniforms, welcome female firefighters for the very first time here in Red Bay, and prepare and ensure complete readiness of all equipment and supplies! 😊

A HUGE THANK YOU to our existing members who have provided such an awesome service to this community for not years, but decades! And as we encourage every age relevant and physically eligible resident to please consider becoming a part of this vital community volunteer role, I would like to throw a 💐 bouquet out this morning to our “aging” fire fighters, who at this point in their lives, should be focusing on retirement and passing the responsibilities to others, but are choosing instead, to stay! They are choosing to stay to ensure we can get as good a succession plan in place as is possible in a community of 140 (mostly senior) residents. They are choosing to stay to ensure that the residents of this community and the general public traveling in ever increasing numbers along our highway, have the emergency services that may be called on at anytime! These guys have years of knowledge and experience and they are choosing to stay and fight for this awesome place, while they pass this knowledge and experience on to younger folks! This is an essential volunteer service Red Bay, and if I may humour you with a small bit of levity … 😁. Because I know you have a GREAT sense of humour Red Bay !!!

“If you want a way to feel young as the years slip by … move to Red Bay, Labrador, where you can be turning 60 years of age in May, 2027, but still be considered one of the “Young Guys”. 🤪

Exceptionally proud and excited to be adding “Volunteer Fire Fighter” to my resume at 59 years of age! And watching my awesome wife do the very same, is double the pleasure! Looking forward to learning from these exceptional individuals and friends who have served this community so well !!!

It’s a good day Red Bay …. 😊

Well folks, as we close it all up for another season here in beautiful historic Red Bay, and rapidly make our way to the end of another calendar year, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on all that 2026 brought us, and it sure was a big one! And with super exciting years coming up in 2027 and 2028, and beyond, so many wonderful folks experienced some awesome growth and excitement through 2026, that will carry them into future seasons with excitement, belief, and confidence! To all who took part in a wonderful season of cooperation, team work, and mutual respect and support … you guys RAWK !!! 😊. Keep working together, staying positive, and supporting each other, and you’ll build this gem of a town, and region, into something every one will be proud of and want to show off to the world! See you in 2027 !!!

Posted on behalf of the Gibbons family …

There will be a visitation at the United Church tonight with the family of the late Linda Gibbons. The community is invited to come between 7:00pm and 9:00pm tonight, Friday, October 30th for a casual informal gathering to share memories and stories.

A celebration of life will take place at 2:00pm tomorrow, Oct. 31/26. Again, our community (and neighboring communities) are invited to join the family for church and interment services for our beloved Linda.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

A reminder Red Bay that our fire department (sign up) meeting is scheduled for 7:00pm this evening, Wednesday, October 28th at the Selma Huxley Barkham Town Hall. We hope you will give serious thought to becoming a volunteer firefighter for our home. Our community is small in numbers and we have a number of fire fighters who have been active and done their part for many years.

We need our young(er) men and women to join in what will be a very rewarding experience. While fire fighters train and prepare for the most unfortunate situations, the camaraderie and sense of community within the group is why many enjoy this most important of community experiences.

Tonight will produce our sign up sheet to be placed on the agenda for our next town council meeting and will also include an informal discussion on the leadership structure for the department moving forward.

Hope to see you there …. 🙂

She was a pillar of this community and she will be dearly missed! 😔. Linda Gibbons was at the very forefront of pretty well all activity in Red Bay for most of her adult life. Volunteering was like breathing it seemed. She was the matriarch of a strong determined family that lived their lives by her example and that matriarch role often carried over from family to community. She was a life long resident and contributed to the success of our community every day that we were fortunate enough to have her.

Before all the pros and cons of internet shopping and having so much buying power in the palm of our hands, Linda was our sole source of postal services and deliveries from the “Sears Catalogue” … that wonder of all wonders that brought us everything from guitars to long john’s. It was a time that will never be replicated, and neither will Linda Gibbons!

We need look no further than her beloved children to understand how seriously Linda took her roles and responsibilities. A solid family unit that have steadfastly gone about making their own positive impression on this community and providing their own indelible mark on our home. A wonderful partnership with her beloved husband created a pairing that contributed so very much to this place. Hard work was a given and she fought and gave all she had to give until there was no more to give! Reluctantly it seems, she moved on from her earthly duties, and has now found the eternal peace that is so totally and completely earned by a loyal and faithful servant.

Rest in peace Lovely Lady! 🙏. The Town of Red Bay expresses its sincerest condolences to Cindy, Rick, and Eugene, along with all other family and friends.

We’re gonna miss you Linda !!! 😔💕

Please note that this social planned for Friday, October 30th has now been cancelled.

Good Morning Red Bay! Getting some chilly air out there as we move along into the frosty months. Seems to happen every single year doesn’t it !!! 🤪

At our last town council meeting, a matter of great importance for our community was discussed regarding identification of houses for emergency response purposes. A member of our valuable ambulance services team is working with communities along the coast to ensure that street signs and house numbers are easily identifiable for paramedics and emergency response vehicles. There was a time when local response units were fairly familiar with all communities and could respond based on that knowledge. That time is behind us however.

We now have many emergency response people that are from other areas and are not as familiar with the communities they serve. The Town of Red Bay will be updating our street signs in the future so as to make the street names easily and readily identifiable. We are also requesting that each household place clear and easily identifiable numbers on their homes in the best location for emergency visibility and response.

These simple and effective measures could very well one day save a life in the community, and it certainly will provide great assistance and lessen frustration for the wonderful first responders that are doing their absolute best to reach you or a loved one who may be in crisis.

The town will be placing a flyer in each community mailbox in the near future so as to ensure that every member of our community has the information and communication regarding this important initiative. These residential numbers can be found in most hardware stores and can be easily applied with a couple of screws provided in the sale. They are fairly inexpensive in relation to the valuable service they can provide for you and your family, so we encourage all residents to work with us, and our first responders, to make every single dwelling in Red Bay (and other communities as well) easily identifiable in any emergency situation. 😊

If you have any questions/concerns, please contact the town office at anytime.
