St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank - The Caring Cupboard

The commitment shown by our Board of Directors extends far beyond the boardroom.

They generously volunteer their time, share their expertise, and help guide our organization so that we can continue serving those experiencing food insecurity in our community.

Today, we are especially grateful to recognize that our Board didn't just support our mission with their time—they also stepped forward to become 1 of 300, investing in our Loading Dock Campaign and the future of the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank.

A huge thank you to the students and staff at Central Elgin Collegiate Institute and Parkside Collegiate Institute for supporting our Summer Top Up Program!

🍎Through their collection of non-perishable food items and by helping spread awareness about food insecurity and our program, they have shown incredible community spirit and compassion.

🍎Their efforts will help ensure local children can focus on making memories this summer instead of worrying about where their next meal will come from.

🛎️ After the Bell packs arrived today from Food Banks Canada and we are so grateful for the extra summer support. After the Bell is handed out with our Summer Top Up Program, beginning July 6 and running weekly until August 27.
🛎️ One time per week, children ages 3-17 can come in and pick up their summer package ( children must reside in the home and you must be a registered visitor to our food bank to be eligible for this program )
🛎️If you’re not a registered visitor, you can register by texting 519-878-3663 ( calls are welcome but texting is quicker as our phone lines are extremely busy )

A young girl arrived to pick up her food pack—excited to choose her favourites. Later that day, at a Teddy Bear picnic, she shared her snacks, carefully pouring juice into a tiny teacup for herself and her bear. Even her mom joined in. It was a simple, joyful moment—but one that meant everything.

Through After the Bell, moments like these are happening in communities across the country. In one rural community, the program became more than food support—it created space for connection. Kids helped pack bags, families gathered at local events, and meaningful relationships grew week by week.
