A1 Security Crime of the week
The Grandparent scam continues to impact members of the community.
This type of scam involves a fraudster pretending to be a grandchild or someone who knows the grandchild, stating they have been arrested or hospitalized and require money. The goal is to create a sense of urgency to cause the grandparent worry or fear and transfer or provide a sum of money to help their grandchild. The scammer may request an electronic transfer, bank deposit or may offer to attend in person to pick up the cash.
If you receive a call like this, please remember
• Police and hospitals will never contact you requesting money
• Never agree to allow a stranger to attend your home or get into a vehicle with a stranger who offers to help
• Never send, deposit or hand over money to a person you aren’t familiar with
If you have older family members talk to them about this type of fraud and encourage them to check in with a trusted family member or call the police or hospital directly to confirm the safety of their grandchild and avoid being scammed.
If you have been victimized, please contact the local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
If you know someone committing or participating in any type of fraud/scam, please contact Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or go online at www.p3tips.com. You will remain completely anonymous and may receive a cash reward.

A1 Security Crime of the Week

The Sarnia Police Service continues to investigate the unsolved homicide of Morag Davies, whose life was tragically taken nearly four decades ago.
Morag, originally from Scotland, was a real estate agent with Canada Trust Realty at the time of her death. Prior to that, she was a nurse in the Emergency Department at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sarnia.
On August 25, 1988, Morag was found murdered in her Retlaw Drive residence in Sarnia. She moved to Retlaw Drive approximately one month before her death from her previous address at 501 Errol Road West.
Investigators determined that Morag was stabbed to death. Despite extensive investigative efforts over the years, the person or persons responsible have never been identified.
The Sarnia Police Service remains committed to pursuing justice for Morag Davies and her family. Through the years, investigators have pursued many leads. These leads have not yet led to the identification of the killer.
Even the smallest detail could prove significant. Information that may have seemed unimportant in 1988 could help investigators identify the person or persons responsible for this violent crime today.
The Sarnia Police Service has dedicated investigators reviewing evidence, following up on information and assessing tips received. All information received will be evaluated and investigated.
