Nuclear Science Week is a great opportunity to learn more about nuclear, and the people and organizations building the knowledge and capabilities that this growing sector requires.

The public is invited to mark Nuclear Science Week 2026 on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Saskatchewan Science Centre. From 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., visitors can enjoy special activities highlighting nuclear science, followed by a "Let's Talk Nuclear" presentation by Dr. Arthur Situm from the University of Regina, introducing the fundamentals of nuclear energy and providing the public a question-and-answer session.

☢️ Let’s Talk Nuclear!

Join us at the Saskatchewan Science Centre on Saturday, October 24, as we celebrate Nuclear Science Week with an afternoon of science, activities and discovery! 🔬

From 1:00–3:30 pm, explore our exhibits and take part in special activities focused on nuclear science, led by our staff and community partners.

Then, at 3:30 pm, join us for a special Let’s Talk Nuclear presentation with Dr. Arthur Situm, Assistant Professor of Energy Systems Engineering at the University of Regina.

Another exciting milestone reached for SRC’s Rare Earth Processing Facility!

Banks one and two of our Solvent Extraction Unit (SXU) are now complete, marking another major step toward bringing this facility closer to operation.

The SXU is where the real separation work happens. Rare earth chloride containing all 17 rare earth elements moves through a series of solvent extraction cells, where SRC-developed technology separates the material into individual or groups of rare earth elements.

Bank one features 54 SX cells, developed and manufactured right here at SRC using plastic welding technology. These cells separate light rare earth elements from heavy rare earth elements.

Bank two consists of 90 SX cells and further refines the material by separating neodymium and praseodymium from other REEs. These two REEs are key ingredients for permanent magnet manufacturing, which are used in electric vehicles, robotics and other advanced technologies. Three more separate separation banks are left to complete, consisting of 230 SX cells.

Congratulations to the teams helping move this made-in-Saskatchewan project forward!

SRC is speaking at the Saskatchewan Indian Training Assessment Group Inc. (SITAG) PROSPER Conference on October 22 at 2 p.m. in Saskatoon at Prairieland Park. We're looking forward to sharing information about our kiskiyihta Indigenous Summer Student Program, including why we created the program and how it has evolved over the years based on what we've learned from students and mentors. You'll also learn more about what's next for the program and upcoming opportunities.

The program is part of SRC's Indigenous Workforce Program, a Pillar 1 Employment initiative from SRC's Indigenous Action Plan, which centres on Indigenous Peoples, communities and businesses to help achieve shared goals. Students in the program gain hands-on learning in a research and technology environment, including unique opportunities to grow and one-on-one mentorship.

FAQ: Where should I place my detector?

Choose the lowest lived-in level of your home, and a room where someone spends more than four hours a day. Place the detector off the floor on a shelf or table, with airflow around it. Place the detector well away from windows, doors, vents, heat and direct sunlight.

Save this placement guide and always follow the instructions supplied with your device.

SRC is helping modernize how organizations across Saskatchewan access and share geospatial imagery with the development of FlySask3, the next generation of the Saskatchewan Geospatial Imagery Collaborative’s (SGIC) imagery platform.

Geospatial imagery consists of photographs or sensor‑based images of Earth that include geographic coordinates. It is a subset of geospatial data typically collected through remote sensing technologies such as satellites, aircraft and drones.

FlySask3 offers advanced security and scalability, live imagery status maps, tools to compare imagery over time, expanded support for elevation data, and light detection and ranging (LiDAR). It's also a flexible platform that will evolve alongside Saskatchewan’s geospatial needs.

Congratulations to SRC's geomatics team for all the work they've done to launch the FlySask3 platform.

Mine remediation projects can span decades. As the work progresses, meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities, businesses and leadership impacted by the project needs to evolve at every stage.

Drawing on nearly 20 years of experience with Project CLEANS (Cleanup of Abandoned Northern Sites), our latest article looks at how we have adapted our approach to engagement at the former Lorado Uranium Mill Site, from early relationship-building and incorporating Indigenous Knowledge to local participation in remediation work and long-term monitoring.

Meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities impacted by a remediation project throughout all of its stages is integral to success. Learn how SRC engaged communities in the Lorado Mill Site remediation.

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day; a day to honour residential school Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize their families and communities.

Orange Shirt Day was inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad, a member of the Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation. In 1973, at six years old, Phyllis arrived at St. Joseph Mission Residential School wearing a new orange shirt her grandmother had given her. The shirt was taken from her and never returned. It’s an experience Phyllis has said made her feel as though she did not matter.

Her story inspired the first Orange Shirt Day in 2013 and the message “Every Child Matters.” Today, the orange shirt serves as a powerful reminder of the experiences of Indigenous children in the residential school system and its ongoing impacts.
As part of SRC’s Indigenous Action Plan and ongoing commitment to reconciliation, employees will be participating in community activities focused on truth, reconciliation and Indigenous learning throughout the day.

We encourage everyone to take time today to listen, learn and reflect on the role we can each play in advancing reconciliation.
