October is Women’s History Month in Canada, a time to celebrate the women and girls whose leadership, innovation, and determination have shaped Canada’s past, are driving change today, and are building a stronger future for everyone. This month is about highlighting the achievements of women and girls, past and present, who have shaped Canada in fields like politics, science, arts, business, and the economy.

Women’s History Month also shines a light on the inequalities women still face, such as wage gaps, underrepresentation in leadership, barriers to entering and advancing in the workforce, and the need to work together toward lasting change.

From trailblazing leaders and changemakers to everyday heroes in our communities, we honour the voices, resilience, and achievements of women past and present.✨

🌟October is German Heritage Month in Canada! 🌟

This month, we recognize the contributions of over 3 million people of German origin to Canada, spanning a wide range of fields, from the arts to sports, education, and science. About 10 percent of Canadians are of German descent, with roots tracing back to the first wave of immigration to the country in the 18th century. One of the most cherished traditions from the German community is Oktoberfest, which is a popular celebration of German culture here in Canada.

This month, let's take the opportunity to learn more about German history, culture, and traditions, as well as the many ways German communities have contributed positively to our country's diverse cultural tapestry.

🌹October 4 is Sisters in Spirit Day – a solemn day of remembrance and awareness for the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ people (MMIWG2S+) across Canada.

We honour their lives, stand with their families, and recognize the ongoing injustices faced by Indigenous communities. For newcomers, this day is an opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect on how colonial systems have impacted Indigenous women and gender-diverse people, and how we can all be part of meaningful change.

Ways to show support:
🕯️ Wear red or display a red dress in solidarity
🕯️ Share stories, raise awareness, and say their names

October is Canadian Islamic Heritage Month across Canada, and Islamic Heritage Month in Ontario! 🌟

First established in 2007, Canadian Islamic History Month is a time to recognize, celebrate and reflect on the rich history, culture, and contributions of Muslims in Canada. This commemorative month also provides an opportunity for all Canadians to engage in dialogue and advance understanding, while fostering greater inclusion and appreciation of the diversity of Canadian Muslim communities.

Muslims have been contributing to all aspects of Ontario’s prosperity and diverse heritage for generations. Islamic history and culture encompass a broad range of individual and collective experiences, as well as important contributions to literature, math, science, art and history.

Let this month be an opportunity for us all to reflect, celebrate and learn about the rich and longstanding Islamic history in the Province and the diverse roles and contributions of Muslim people in communities across Ontario and Canada ✨
