How Much Growth Can Sidney Accommodate?
(Priority 6 of 7)

What does realistic growth look like for Sidney?
Sidney occupies just five square kilometres. As our community continues to change, we need to consider not only where additional housing and development can occur, but what our existing infrastructure can reasonably accommodate.
We also need to recognize that growth doesn’t stop at our borders. Increasing density in neighbouring municipalities can affect Sidney’s roads, services and infrastructure as well.
What are our limits? Where can shared services help us manage growth more effectively?
I believe our decisions about future growth need to be made with a clear understanding of the infrastructure required to support it.

The Future of Beacon Wharf
(Priority 5 of 7)

What should the future of Beacon Wharf look like?
Beacon Wharf, with its iconic fish market and remarkable view across the Salish Sea to Mount Baker, is an important part of Sidney’s waterfront.
But the wharf is in serious need of attention.
Is it recoverable? If it is, what will that cost? If it isn’t, what could a new version of Beacon Wharf look like — and what would that cost?
These are decisions that will affect Sidney for many years. We need a clear understanding of the options, their costs and what the community values before determining the way forward.

Met with some local cyclists at Gray’s to chat about our Active Transportation Plan for ALL residents. A general welcoming of reopening Bowerbank to southbound traffic at Piercy … safer for cyclists too as no one will drive on the wrong side of the road!

One Peninsula, One Environment
(Priority 4 of 7)

The environment doesn’t recognize municipal boundaries.
Sidney, North Saanich and Central Saanich share one small peninsula and the same bioregional environment.
Plants, animals, water, air — and people — don’t stop at a municipal boundary.
So how can we, as Peninsula residents, work together to steward this land and environment?
Some challenges are bigger than any one municipality. I believe there is an opportunity for the three municipalities to take a more coordinated approach to environmental priorities and to work together where our interests and responsibilities are shared.
