The 2026 Poppy Campaign is underway.

Yesterday, Mayor Tory Deschamps and Deputy Mayor Stephen Dillabough joined Spencerville Royal Canadian Legion Branch 604 President Tom Lillico and Poppy Campaign representative Nancy Ringuette for the presentation of the first poppies, marking the beginning of this year's campaign.

Each year, the Poppy Campaign invites Canadians to wear a poppy in remembrance of those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Donations collected through the campaign help support Veterans and their families.

Lest we forget.

We're wrapping up Local Government Week with our Building department on site in Cardinal!

Today, we joined our Building Inspector at the new building under construction on Dishaw Street to learn about the inspections that take place throughout construction. Once complete, this building will operate as a child care facility.

The Building department's work doesn't end when a permit is issued. From foundations and framing to plumbing and insulation, inspections at different stages of construction help ensure work follows approved plans and meets applicable building requirements.

Our Fire Chief also joined us to explain the fire safety features that will be inspected before the building opens, including smoke alarms, exit signs, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers.

These inspections help make buildings safe for the people who use them!
