NLCC Erwin J. Stolk Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) Erwin J. Stolk is a program for youth aged 9-12 years old. Some corps host occasional weekend activities or trips, as well.

The program fosters the development of leadership skills, citizenship, and physical fitness in an environment that emphasizes inclusivity, teamwork, and friendship. Our program welcomes youth between the ages of 9 and 12 for fun, naval-themed activities. This program is independently operated by the Navy League of Canada, with the help of hundreds of dedicated volunteers across the nation. There are more than 3,000 Navy League Cadets active in over 100 communities across Canada. The Navy League Cadet program aims to help young Canadians learn life skills including citizenship, teamwork and self-discipline. Our programming is designed to help cadets become more aware of the world around them, become self-sufficient and confident in their own skills. Throughout their training, Navy League Cadets learn what good leadership looks like, how to work together, and how to overcome challenges. Youth leave the program with a genuine interest in their community’s well-being and equipped with skills to become active citizens. Navy League Cadets learn many skills through fun activities, which vary depending on region. These activities can include: Sailing, Camping, Swimming, Music, Sports, Parades, First-Aid, Water Safety, Communications, and Trips. With such a wide variety of activities, you will be sure to find something for you! Most corps (pronounced “core” – that’s what we call each group) meet one evening each week from September to June. The cost of joining the program varies depending on the corps and the activities they offer. To help make the program accessible to all, cadets and their parents are required to participate in fundraising activities. Cadet uniforms are provided by The Navy League of Canada. Cadets are required to maintain their uniforms and return them when they leave the program. NLCC Erwin J. Stolk has been active in Parkland County since 2007.

⚓ Training Nights So Far at NLCC Erwin J. Stolk! ⚓

We’re off to a busy start to the training year! Our cadets have been working on perfecting their marching, learning to salute correctly, and building the skills and confidence that come with being part of a team.

As we begin a new training year with our new Commanding Officer, Lt (NL) Thorne, and Executive Officer, Lt (NL) Stolk, we know there are a lot of hats to wear and plenty to learn along the way! Thankfully, we’ve been fortunate to welcome several new volunteers aboard, and we’d like to introduce them again: CI Gryshik, CI Percy, and CV Ragosin. Welcome aboard!

A huge thank-you to all our officers, instructors, and volunteers who continue to put in the time and effort to help our corps run smoothly. We know the start of a new year can feel like a lot all at once, but we’re rowing together, supporting one another, and finding our rhythm as a team. ⚓

From celebrating our fall birthdays with treats generously provided by A/SLt (NL) Penney and CI Percy, to learning proper uniform care with CI Gryshik, there’s always something happening aboard our ship. And speaking of ships, CI Gryshik’s ancient submarine stationed aboard has certainly helped make our training space feel a little more like the real thing! 🚢

Of course, no training night would be complete without a little adventure! At one point, Lt (NL) Thorne was imaginarily thrown overboard — and what better opportunity to teach our cadets an important seamanship skill? She demonstrated a one-handed bowline, showing our cadets how to tie this useful, non-slip knot.

We’re learning, laughing, building skills, and working together one training night at a time. Thank you to everyone who helps make NLCC Erwin J. Stolk a place where our cadets can learn, lead, and inspire! 💙⚓

A HUGE thank you to our Branch and RCSCC Mackenzie for joining us for last night’s festivities at the Edmonton Corn Maze! 🌽🎃

Our cadets had an absolute blast, and we had a fantastic turnout! It was especially easy to keep an eye on everyone this time because the corn hadn’t grown quite high enough to hide them all! 😂🤣

A great appreciation also goes to Lt. Stolk for providing all the wood to keep our fires going. 🔥

And of course, a big thank you to the Branch for providing the hotdogs! 🌭 They were a huge hit.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make the evening such a success. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves and spending time together.

Hopefully, this can become a future opportunity for us to continue bringing all our members together, having some fun, and building that sense of community beyond our regular parade nights.

Thank you again to everyone who came out and helped make it such a great evening! 💙⚓
