The Personal Development Program at Semiahmoo House Society is made up of many components, some of which are:
Social Development
Our Social Development programs help increase the language and communication
skills of the participants. These programs will also provide opportunities to build confidence and
increase their social networks while having fun doing it! Programs may include: Music Therap
y, Coffee Shop, Seasons Program, Social Clubs, Bingo, Choir, Dance, and Music Appreciation. Recreation/Leisure
Our Recreation/Leisure programs help participants become more active in their community and increase their health and awareness by focusing on fitness, nutrition, and overall well being. Programs may include: Swimming, Dance Class, Fitness Exercise, Yoga, Bowling, Hiking Club, Gardening, Sewing, Arts and Crafts. Education Programs
Participants are assisted with their educational goals by empowering them with the skills and knowledge they will need for further education or occupations. Programs include: Reading, Writing, Math Skills, Geography, Current Events, Career Awareness, Computers and the Internet, Travel Club, Library, Book Club, Sign Language and Coffee Shop Services. Volunteer Placement Program
The Volunteer Placement Program is designed to help participants feel valued in the community as a contributing member. This program may include: Shopping, Seniors Services, Park and Street Clean Up, The Langley Animal Shelter and home library delivery. Life Skills Program
Participants are helped with independence, safety issues and positive self image. It will increase their self-confidence and assist them in daily living skills. Programs may include: Hygiene, Etiquette, Money Management and Recognition, Transit Awareness, Food Preparation, Health, Social Skills, Safety Awareness, Assertiveness and Advocacy.
