Thursday's Fire Safety Tip is about Fire Planning.

Make a fire plan with your family and be sure to familiarize yourself with the fire plan for your workplace. Discuss planned escape routes in the event of a fire and know where all exits are.

Know where to go after evacuating. Ensure your family knows where to meet if you have to evacuate your home, and be familiar with your workplace's Designated Waiting Area of Muster Point to meet at after evacuating.

Place fire escape ladders near upper level windows and have working fire extinguishers placed throughout. Be sure to test smoke alarms often.

Teach children when and how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency. Ensure children know your address. Ensure your workplace's address is posted so anyone can call 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Wednesday's Fire Safety Tip is about Carbon Monoxide Safety.

CO is known as the Silent Killer for a reason. It's an odourless gas that can be fatal. Ensure your home or business is equipped with working Carbon Monoxide alarms and test them regularly.

Know how to recognize the symptoms of CO Poisoning: headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea without a fever.

When in doubt, call 9-1-1! TFD is equipped with gas meters to detect the presence of hazardous gases.

This year, NFPA messaging during Fire Prevention Week focuses on re-chargeable battery safety.

Here are some tips to keep you safe when it comes to re-chargeable batteries:

- Use the charging cable and power supply provided by the manufacturer
- Charge batteries on hard surfaces, not soft surfaces like beds or couches
- Unplug once charging is complete
- Recognize the signs of a possible battery fire like swelling or heat
- Charge high capacity batteries for items like e-bikes and power tools outdoors
