Congratulations to Shelby Dowhan, recipient of this year’s NPP Community Involvement Award.

This award recognizes individuals who go above and beyond for the communities around them, and Shelby is a well-deserved recipient. For more than ten years, she has given her time to Thorhild Central School, the Newbrook Range Riders Association, the Newbrook 4-H Club, and her neighbours. She has helped elementary students, coached volleyball, basketball, and archery, pitched in at community events, and lent a hand with animal care and property maintenance.

Inspired by her parents’ longstanding commitment to community service, Shelby values helping others and building a safe, supportive community. She hopes to carry that spirit into her future career as a teacher, making a positive difference in the lives of students.

Thank you, Shelby, for everything you do. We are proud to recognize you.

Some places carry the weight of history in a way that is hard to put into words. The Lac La Biche Mission, located on the south shore of Lac La Biche lake, is one of those places.

Established in 1853 by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a Roman Catholic order that made the journey from France by way of Quebec, the Mission was first built near the Hudson’s Bay Company post in town before moving to its current site in 1855 to be closer to the water and the rich land that would allow the community to be self-sufficient.

For over a century, the Mission served as a centre of religious, agricultural, and community life in the region before closing its doors in 1963.

Today, the Lac La Biche Mission is recognized as a National Historic Site by Parks Canada and as a Provincial Historic Resource, preserving the stories, the structures, and the spirit of a place that shaped this part of Alberta in profound ways.

If you have never visited, it is well worth the trip. And if you have been, we would love to hear about it in the comments.

Noticed your power bill looking a little higher lately? Here is why that happens.

A few things can cause your bill to change from month to month.

đźź© Seasonal usage. Heating in winter and cooling in summer naturally push consumption higher. Longer cold spells mean your furnace runs more, and that shows up on your bill.

đźź© New appliances or equipment. A new hot tub, electric vehicle charger, or space heater can add up quickly without you realizing it.

For a full breakdown of how to read your bill and understand every charge on it, visit npprea.ca/billing or call us at 780-398-2000. We are always happy to walk you through it.

You might not think your co-op affects Albertans outside our service area. But it does. When a member-owned utility operates transparently, at cost, with a member-elected board, it creates a real-world benchmark for what electricity delivery actually costs without shareholder returns built in.

That benchmark matters. Lose the alternative and you lose the comparison. NPP is proud to be part of a network that keeps power honest across Alberta.

POWER OUTAGE UPDATE - 7PM OCTOBER 17, 2026: Earlier today there were a number of members who experienced an unplanned power outage (loss of power) due to the high winds in the area. As of 7 pm, a majority of our members have had their power restored however there are approximagely 20 services/members remaining without power. Unfortunately, these services will remain without power until Fortis has restored power to the line (due to the interconnected system in which we operate in Alberta) that they connect to. We will continue to monitor the situation, and should your service experience an outage, please down't hesitate to call as it may not be one of those affected by Fortis. Upon receipt of your call, the call center will be able to inform you if it is connected or an independant outage for which a Lineman will be dispatched.

With NPP, rate transparency is a priority. As a member-owned co-op, we do not answer to shareholders. We answer to you. That means we set our rates with one goal in mind: offering the lowest price we can while keeping the lights on and service reliable across our five-county service area.

We have a website section that explains how your bill is calculated and the rate options available.

Visit npprea.ca/billing to learn more.

All power has been restored, if you are still experiencing a power outage please call in. Unfortunately, some of our members were without power for an extended period of time as a result of the transmission system (Altalink/Fortis) operator having extended downtime due to high winds causing considerable challenges with trees on the line and other weather related problems.

If you called in requesting a call back and were delayed in our response, we apologize if your call wasn;t returned as promptly as you expected as our Lineman were very busy in the field working to restore power to all.

This week is Co-op Week, and we could not be more proud to celebrate it.

Co-operatives are built on a simple idea: that people can achieve more together than they can alone. For over 75 years, North Parkland Power Co-op has been living proof of that. Member-owned, locally governed, and committed to keeping rural Alberta powered and thriving.

When you choose NPP, you are not just a customer. You are an owner. Your investment stays in your community, your voice shapes decisions, and your co-op answers to you.

That is the difference. That is the co-op advantage.

From our crew and team to yours, happy Thanksgiving.

This time of year, we are reminded of how much there is to be grateful for in rural Alberta. The land, the communities, the neighbours who show up for each other, and the families gathered around the table this weekend.

We hope you enjoy every moment of it.
