Last week, Thunder Bay CEDC’s Tourism Manager, Paul Pepe, and Convention & Visitor Services Coordinator, Jennifer Grundy, attended the annual Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) Summit in Ottawa!

Joining more than 400 tourism professionals and industry leaders from across the province, they spent two days connecting, learning, sharing ideas and celebrating the best of Ontario’s tourism sector.

📢 Exciting news for Thunder Bay and the surrounding region!

Thunder Bay CEDC has successfully secured the Thunder Bay District Census Division’s participation in Ontario’s 2026–2027 Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) initiative!

Through the initiative, the Thunder Bay District is expected to receive 150 immigration nominations in 2027, helping local employers address critical workforce shortages while creating new pathways to permanent residence for eligible skilled international workers.

This is an important step toward strengthening our regional workforce, supporting business growth and welcoming newcomers who contribute to the long-term prosperity of our communities.

🥌 World-class curling is coming back to Thunder Bay!

Thunder Bay CEDC, through its Tourism Development Fund, is proud to announce $250,000 in funding support for the 2026 Grand Slam of Curling!

Taking place December 1–6 at Fort William Gardens, the event will bring the world's top 16 men's and 16 women's curling teams to Thunder Bay, generating an estimated $5 million in economic impact for our community.

Building on the success of the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the Grand Slam of Curling further strengthens Thunder Bay's reputation as a premier sport tourism destination, attracting visitors, supporting local businesses and showcasing our city on the international stage.

Now in its 13th year, this exclusive showcase provides Northern Ontario mining service and supply companies with a valuable opportunity to highlight their products, services and expertise, build industry connections and explore new business opportunities at one of the world's leading mining conventions.

🌲A major investment in Northwestern Ontario’s forestry future!

The Ontario government has announced $1.5 million in funding to support the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre’s Boreal Springboard Program, helping strengthen our region’s forestry sector, protect local jobs and attract new business investment.

Through its Accelerator and Soft-Landing programs, this initiative will support entrepreneurs and established companies looking to develop innovative forest-based products, access new markets and grow their operations in Northwestern Ontario.

As a proud partner of Boreal Springboard, the Thunder Bay CEDC is excited to support this initiative alongside the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre and CRIBE: Centre for Research & Innovation in the Bio-Economy, helping position our region as a hub for forestry innovation, investment and long-term economic growth.
