🏠 Why aren’t we building more homes in Timmins?

We hear a lot about opening new land and creating new subdivisions. But what happens when lots have already been available for years and people still aren’t building?

I went out to Abbey Lane to look at the issue firsthand β€” and the numbers help explain the problem.

Then there’s another part of our housing supply we shouldn’t ignore: the homes already standing in our community.

Before we spend millions creating something new, we should be asking how we can make housing easier to build, repair and actually afford.

Use what we have.
Fix what we can.
Make housing easier to create.

I’m Robert Crocco, candidate for Timmins City Council β€” Ward 5.

This election, the power is yours.

What if Living Space was moved somewhere that could actually be designed around the services people need?

In this video, Robert Crocco visits the old Malette/Tembec area on Highway 101 West and explains why he believes a location like this deserves serious consideration.

He talks about creating more than just another shelter β€” including transitional housing, addiction and mental-health supports, transportation, medical services, proper security, and a real path toward permanent housing.

The video also discusses the nearby Wakenagun Youth Healing Lodge and why Indigenous organizations and treatment providers should be part of any future planning.

Robert Crocco is running for Ward 5 and will also be at the Mac on September 22 for Meet the Voters.

Watch the video and hear the full proposal.

πŸŽ₯ I’m Back on the Downtown Couch!

I had the chance to sit down with Robert Boucher again for another Downtown Couch conversation, and this time we really got into the meat of the issues facing Timmins.

We talked about the concerns I’m hearing from residents, where I believe the city needs to improve, and the kind of accountability and common-sense decision-making I want to bring to council.

And yes β€” the sound is MUCH better this time! πŸ˜„

These conversations matter because voters deserve to hear directly from the people asking for their support.

Give it a watch, share it around, and let me know what you think.

Your voice matters. Your vote matters.

08/26/2026

Robert Crocco was there at Pack the Mac before he was ever asking for your vote.

He stood shoulder to shoulder with residents, spoke up, questioned the lack of accountability surrounding CDSAB, and raised the same concerns many people in Timmins were feeling about safety, homelessness and Living Space.

Today, his position remains clear:

We must move Living Space. We must make our neighbourhoods safer. And City Hall must be accountable to the people it represents.

Robert is running for Ward 5, but the decisions made around that council table affect every neighbourhood in Timmins.

This election, look at who showed up before campaign season. Look at who spoke up. Look at who demanded answers.

Then use the most important power you have.

Your vote.

What a beautiful day spent at Schumacher Day in the Park with my lovely wife!

A huge thank you to Dave Farrell and every single volunteer who made today possible. Events like this take countless hours of planning and hard work, and our community is better because of people who are willing to step up and give their time.

Three years ago, when the City failed to organize a Canada Day celebration, it was volunteers and community members who answered the call. Out of that disappointment came something incredible. It showed us the true power of community and what can happen when people come together for families, children, and neighbours.

As your Ward 5 City Councillor, I will always fight to support events like this. Strong communities are built by bringing people together, not by taking opportunities away. We should be encouraging family events, supporting volunteers, and making sure Timmins remains a city where people are proud to gather.

I'd also like to wish Dave Farrell the very best in his campaign for Ward 3. Dave has shown, through his actions, that he cares deeply about bringing people together and giving back to our community. I believe he'll make a great city councillor, and I look forward to the opportunity to work alongside him.

Thank you again to Dave, all the volunteers, the organizers, and everyone who came out to make today such a great success. You should all be proud!

πŸ“ Back where it all started.

Today I'm standing at the McIntyre Arena, where nearly 1,800 residents gathered to demand change for Timmins.

I was there with you then, and I'm here with you now.

As your Ward 5 City Council candidate, I'll continue fighting for a safer, stronger Timmins where families, businesses, and neighbourhoods come first.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. What changes do you want to see in Ward 5 and across our city? Leave a comment below.

πŸ“’ I'm Running for Timmins City Council – Ward 5

After giving it a great deal of thought, I've decided to officially put my name forward as a candidate for Timmins City Council, Ward 5.

This campaign is about listening to residents, working hard, and helping move our community in a positive direction. Ward 5 deserves a strong voice at the council tableβ€”someone who is approachable, accountable, and committed to finding practical solutions to the issues that matter most.

Over the coming weeks and months, I'll be sharing more about my priorities, meeting with residents, and hearing your ideas and concerns. Your input will help shape the direction of this campaign because the best decisions come from listening to the people we serve.

I would be honoured to earn your trust and your vote this October.

If you have questions, concerns, or ideas you'd like to discuss, please don't hesitate to reach out. I look forward to meeting many of you throughout the campaign.

Together, let's build a stronger Ward 5 and a stronger Timmins.

– Robert Crocco

πŸ€” A question for the people of Timmins...

πŸ“’ Important Note: I currently live in a commercial building, so this proposal would not apply to me personally.

If elected to City Council, I would like to start a conversation with residents and Council about ways to help seniors remain in their homes longer.

🏑 Should homeowners who are 65 years of age or older, and who continue to live in their primary family residence, have the option to freeze their municipal property taxes and water rates at their 2026 levels for as long as they remain in that home?

Many seniors live on fixed incomes while the cost of living continues to rise. Would a measure like this help them stay in the homes and neighbourhoods they have worked so hard to build?

πŸ’¬ This is only a proposal for discussion. It would require careful financial analysis, public input, and approval by City Council before anything could move forward.

I'd genuinely like to hear from you.

πŸ‘ Is this an idea worth exploring?
πŸ‘Ž Do you see challenges with it?
πŸ’‘ Do you have a better suggestion?

Let's have a respectful discussion. Every idea starts with a conversation.
