One thing you wish people understood about grief?
Nirosa said:
“It doesn’t always have to be sad.”
And that’s one of the biggest misconceptions about grief.
Grief has so many dualities.
You can miss someone deeply while still laughing.
You can carry pain and still experience joy.
You can cry one day and feel completely numb the next.
You can heal… and still grieve.
Losing someone changes the way you experience life forever, but it doesn’t mean every moment after loss has to feel dark.
Sometimes grief looks like smiling while telling stories about them.
Sometimes it looks like feeling connected to them in happy moments.
Sometimes it’s wearing something that makes you feel close to them 🤍
Our hoodies were created to make people feel seen in every stage of grief, the heavy moments, the healing moments, and everything in between.

When Vasuki lost her older brother Vasu, she didn’t just lose her only sibling. She lost a piece of home, her childhood, laughter/peace at home, memories, and the version of life that existed before grief.
Today, she wears her Grief Academy hoodie for him. 🤍
Because grief doesn’t end after the funeral.
Love doesn’t either.
For the people learning to carry loss every single day, this is for you.

Grief is always there, even when you’re smiling, having fun, it’s always on the back of your mind that they are not here, and that you miss them. 🤍
When Piranavan lost his brother-in-law, Vasu, he wasn’t only learning how to carry his own pain… he was also witnessing the grief of his sisters, Vasu’s sister, his parents, friends
Everyone processing the same loss in completely different ways.
That’s one of the hardest parts about grief.
You’re hurting while also trying to understand and hold space for everyone else’s hurt too.
There’s no “right” way to grieve.
Just real people trying to survive something life-changing. đź–¤

When Arabi lost her cousin Danash, she said one word described grief best:
“heavy.”
Some losses change the way you move through life forever.
“who are you wearing this for?”
some people may no longer be here physically, but we carry their love with us every day 🤍

Nothing good lasts forever, but also, no feeling is permanent, whether that’s bad or good 🤍
Life is always full of good-byes, doesn’t mean it hurts any less.
When Ajana lost her brother in law Vasu, who she had a really close bond and relationship with, she knew life would never ever be the same.
“who are you wearing this for?”
some people never leave us, we just learn to carry them differently 🤍

When Vasuki lost her older brother Vasu, it was a life-altering loss. Losing someone, especially when you are young, changes your whole life.
She also become the “only” child to her parents which adds an additional pain and loss to an already really difficult loss.
Grief can get really lonely, fast, first, because sometimes it feels like there’s an outpouring amount of support that happens right in the beginning and that support slowly tapers off, even though the griever still needs it and is still actively grieving.
But also because, you can be in a room full of people and still feel lonely, if no one knows what you are going through or what’s running through your head.
If no one knows how to bring up your loss because of the fear of being “awkward”, or you don’t bring it up, because of the fear of being a “downer” or “burden”.
One of the reasons grief academy was created is to normalize conversations around grief, which more often than not, not talked about.
If you lost someone, you know how important it is to include your person in conversations and bring them up but not being able to.
We are looking to change that.
