Sanofi recently announced a $294 million expansion in Ontario, and we appreciated the opportunity to speak with Sanofi’s Global Head of Digital Strategy and Operations, Dimitrije Jankovic to gain additional insight into the investment:

❓Can you describe the situation Sanofi was facing when you first connected with Invest Ontario?

➡️ Sanofi has been rapidly expanding our AI capabilities, and we reached an inflection point. We reached out for external support to capitalize on this momentum. Hiring 50+ specialized roles would not be as smooth without a partnership with Invest Ontario, that provided support necessary to expand our AI Centre of Excellence in Toronto.

❓What's the most important thing about this expansion?

➡️ This expansion will create career opportunities at Sanofi that AI professionals won't find elsewhere. Here they will work on AI applications that directly impact patient lives with the resources of a global biopharma leader. We're offering the scale, and purpose that most companies can't provide. It demonstrates Sanofi's long-term commitment to Ontario as a global hub for life sciences innovation in AI.

❓How did the Ontario ecosystem help and who are you looking forward to working with?

➡️ Ontario's AI ecosystem offers unparalleled opportunities for collaboration across industry partners, talent networks, and academia. We're looking to connect with organizations across the ecosystem to build partnerships that strengthen Ontario's position as a global AI hub. This collaborative approach allows us to support Ontario's AI ecosystem through our contributions through our biopharma expertise to advance innovation across sectors.

❓What are you most excited about this project?

➡️ The most exciting aspect of this expansion is the opportunity to build AI capabilities that directly accelerate how medicines reach patients - through initiatives ranging from automating regulatory documentation to deploying conversational AI in clinical trials to real-time pharmacovigilance. This expansion creates opportunities for professionals to tackle problems at a scale and complexity that drives meaningful impact across the Ontario's Biopharma AI ecosystem.

📢 Investment alert: Tenaris plans to invest $306 million and create 200 jobs at their Canadian manufacturing hub in Sault Ste. Marie.

The expansion would support an increase in annual domestic production of roughly 80% of seamless and welded pipe used in critical energy drilling and transportation infrastructure, supporting Canada’s sovereign supply chain.

It also reinforces Ontario as a competitive destination for large-scale industrial investment and a secure North American base for advanced manufacturing.

📢 Investment alert: Ross Video plans to invest $122.5 million to expand its manufacturing and research and development (R&D) capacity at its Ottawa and Iroquois facilities, creating 125 new high-skilled jobs in engineering, manufacturing and R&D.

This expansion is expected to strengthen Ontario’s position as a leading jurisdiction for advanced broadcast, live-production and media technology innovation.

Ross Video is a major contributor to Canada’s global media technology presence and is leveraging the Ottawa-to-Cornwall corridor’s deep engineering talent pool, research strength, integrated manufacturing supply chains and digital media network.

Invest Ontario provided strategic guidance that connected the company with key partners across Ontario’s media-technology and advanced-manufacturing ecosystem while helping the company navigate workforce and training opportunities.

📢 Investment alert: Sunrise Farms (“Sunrise”) plans to invest $100.5 million to construct a new 155,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art poultry processing facility, creating 100 jobs in Woodstock, Ontario.

This major expansion is expected to increase domestic processing capacity and strengthen the sovereignty of Ontario’s agri-food supply chain.

The Woodstock facility will be among the most technologically advanced poultry processing facilities in Canada, with leading-edge food safety, environmental, and animal welfare processes and technologies.

Invest Ontario supported the project by helping the company navigate workforce planning and training programs, and by coordinating across municipal, provincial and federal governments.

Sanofi expands global AI centre of excellence, scaling operations at its Toronto digital hub | Invest Ontario 05/04/2026

Today, Sanofi announced the expansion of its global Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centre of Excellence in Toronto, reinforcing Ontario’s position as a world leader in AI, and demonstrating a long-term commitment to the growth of the digital hub for Sanofi’s global operations, developing and manufacturing medicines and vaccines.

The $294 million expansion is expected to create 50 new high-skilled jobs in artificial intelligence and machine learning, building on the over 150 roles in cloud computing, data engineering, software development, bioinformatics, and pharmaceutical data science created since 2022.

After a comprehensive international review, the company selected Toronto to anchor this expanded capability, drawing on Ontario’s strong AI talent pool, advanced digital infrastructure and globally connected life sciences ecosystem.

Since launching its AI Centre of Excellence in Ontario in 2022, Sanofi has continued to invest in and scale its team in Toronto, enabling the deployment of AI across all business functions as a key driver of its global strategy.

📢 Ostia Sciences Inc., a Toronto based biotechnology company plans to invest $12 million over the next three years to expand its research and development (R&D) capacity and scale its microbiome-based innovations in Ontario.

The expansion includes $5 million in R&D investment and has the potential to create 28 high-skilled jobs as the company advances a new class of therapies derived from beneficial microbes that support immune function, combat infectious diseases and improve overall health.

The project strengthens Ostia Sciences’ ability to accelerate development of its proprietary discovery platform, which identifies bacteria with drug like properties and produces novel antimicrobial molecules known as bacteriocins.

This technology addresses a critical global challenge: the rising threat of antimicrobial resistance and the need for new, targeted therapeutics that go beyond traditional antibiotics.
