Ontario Human Rights Commission Official account of the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC). Follow us for human rights info, events and resources in Ontario.

The Ontario Human Rights Commission promotes and enforces human rights to create a culture of human rights accountability. The Ontario Human Rights Code is a provincial law that gives everybody equal rights and opportunities without discrimination in specific social areas such as jobs, housing, services, facilities, and contracts or agreements. The Code’s goal is to prevent discrimination and harassment because of race, s*x, disability, and age, to name a few of the 17 grounds. All other Ontario laws must agree with the Code. If you believe you have experienced discrimination, the Human Rights Legal Support Centre can help you determine if what you experienced is protected under the Code. October 4 is the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.

Today, the OHRC joins Indigenous communities in honouring the lives and legacies of those taken by gender-based and colonial violence, and stands with the families, loved ones, and survivors who continue to seek justice, healing, and systemic change.

This day demands more than remembrance. It calls on all of us to confront the root causes of this violence: racism, s*xism, and the ongoing impacts of colonialism.

The OHRC is committed to advancing the human rights of all Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQ+ people, and to working toward a future where safety, dignity, and justice are realities for all of us.

This Learning Disabilities Awareness Month, the OHRC recognizes that too many students with learning disabilities continue face barriers to education.
These barriers can limit access to academic success, support services, and inclusive learning environments.

Accommodation is not an advantage. It is a right, protected under Ontario's Human Rights Code. Ensuring everyone receives the supports they need is essential to creating learning environments where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

The OHRC works to advance the right to accessible education and to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.
