Our History
Militia Order No. 1 dated 14 January 1876 authorized the formation of the Toronto Engineer Company. This name was changed in October of the same year to the 2nd Military District Engineer Company. The establishment of the Company called for 5 officers and seventy other ranks. The company's first Commanding Officer was Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Clarkson Scoble. With no established engin

eer stores and no trained instructors, his problems were numerous. Lt Col Scoble located a retired Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) of the Royal Engineers living in Toronto, persuaded him to become the Training NCO of the Engineer Company, and then paid from his own pocket for the supplies and equipment necessary to train his men as Sappers. Members of the Regiment have long been innovators. "Jack" McCurdy and Frederick W. "Casey" Baldwin made Canada's first powered flight in the 'Silver Dart' at Baddeck, Nova Scotia and conducted the first military aircraft demonstration at Petawawa, Ontario later that same year. The Regiment's current home beside the Downsview airfield, is an appropriate place for the heirs of those outstanding pioneers of army aviation as it was once home to legendary aircraft manufacturer A. Roe (AVRO) and now to Bombardier Canada.

32 Combat Engineer Regiment perpetuates the 2nd Divisional Engineers of the First World War's Canadian Corps. Sappers from the Regiment also went overseas in 1918 as a key part of the 4000 man Canadian Contingent sent to open a new front in Siberia. Again deployed during World War II as the 2nd Divisional Engineers, they took part in the controversial and deadly Dieppe Raid in 1942. Thereafter the component companies of the Regiment distinguished themselves fighting throughout the European Campaign following the D-Day invasion in Normandy. After the war, they were re-designated 2 Field Engineer Regiment (M), and under that name were called out in 1954 to provide disaster relief and aid to the Greater Toronto Area in the aftermath of Hurricane Hazel. Thirty years later, 2 FER became the one and only unit to ever receive the Freedoms of all six Cities and the Borough that now form Metropolitan Toronto. On November 23 2006 by order of the Honourable Gordon O'Connor Minister of National Defense 2 Field Engineer Regiment became 32 Combat Engineer Regiment.

On May 31, members of 32 Combat Engineer Regiment conducted demolition training at CFB Petawawa as part of a field exercise to practice their explosive demolition capability.

The conduct of the demolition range included beehive shape charges, C4 and Trigran explosive to create a crater, as well as improvised bangalores to breach a wire obstacle. These capabilities are meant to support friendly forces mobility and deny the enemy the same.

Le 31 mai, les membres du 32e Régiment du génie de combat ont mené un entraînement de démolition à la BFC Petawawa dans le cadre d'un exercice sur le terrain afin de mettre en pratique leur capacité de démolition explosive.

La séance de démolition comprenait l'utilisation de charges en forme de ruche, de C4 et d'explosif Trigran pour créer un cratère, ainsi que des torpilles Bangalore improvisées pour franchir un obstacle en fil de fer. Ces capacités sont destinées à appuyer la mobilité des forces amies et à la refuser à l'ennemi.

Joint Task Force Central (JTFC) conducted a domestic emergency response exercise with civilian partners in Burwash near Sudbury, ON. The fictitious Air Disaster (MAJAID) scenario tested JTFC's readiness to support a federal request for assistance during a domestic crisis.

One of 32 Combat Engineer Regiment’s main tasks was to run a chainsaw qualification course to qualify non-engineer troops on chainsaw, to use in future domestic operations.

La Force Opérationnelle Interarmées Centre (FOIC) a mené un exercice national d'intervention d'urgence avec des partenaires civils à Burwash, près de Sudbury (Ontario). Le scénario fictif de catastrophe aérienne (MAJAID) a testé la capacité de la FOIC à soutenir une demande fédérale d'assistance lors d'une crise nationale.

L'une des tâches principales du 32e Régiment du génie de combat était d'organiser un cours de qualification de tronçonneuse afin de qualifier les troupes non-ingénieures à l'utilisation de la tronçonneuse pour de futures opérations nationales.

24-27 Apr 25 Exercise Trillium Venture in CFTA Burwash near Sudbury ON.

Joint Task Force Central's (JTFC) domestic emergency response exercise in collaboration with civilian counterparts to ensure JTFC is ready to support in response to a request for federal assistance (RFA) in times of domestic crises. The scenario was a fictitious Air Disaster (MAJAID) in Burwash near Sudbury ON.

32 CER's main tasks were to conduct a chainsaw qualification course in accordance with Battle School standards, pick up and drop-off of airplane parts to facilitate the scenario and cross training with a group of volunteer firefighters in a township near Sudbury, ON.

Bob served 43 years with the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves - 34 years of that with 32 Combat Engineer Regiment.
