“Accessibility is...”

We asked our community members to fill in the blank. Their answers are a reminder that accessibility means something deeply personal to everyone.

Accessibility is inclusion.
Accessibility is independence.
Accessibility is belonging.
Accessibility is freedom.

Together, these voices help paint a picture of a more accessible Canada.

What does accessibility mean to you? Share your answer in the comments.

Description: In this video, 7 individuals were asked to fill in the blank, and answer what accessibility means to them. Most of the clips were taken indoors, and one of them was taken outside in front of a building.

What kind of future do you want to help create?

Bill, a longtime volunteer at Holland Bloorview, has seen firsthand the impact the right support can have on kids with disabilities and their families. After bringing his grandson for swim lessons years ago, something clicked, and he’s been giving back ever since.

That experience inspired Bill and his wife to include a gift in their Will, helping ensure more children can access life-changing care for generations to come.

If you’ve been thinking about the legacy you want to leave, start with our FREE Will Health Check Guide. It’s designed to help you make sure your plans are up to date, while supporting the causes you care about.

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate, reflect and support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. At Holland Bloorview, we are proud to mark the month with a flag raising ceremony on June 1, a pride-themed display at our Grocery Foundation Resource Center on the first floor, and taking part in the Toronto Pride Parade on June 28.

This year’s theme, “We Won’t Stop,” reminds us that building inclusive communities is an ongoing action.

We are proud to show solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, this month and every month.

In honour of National AccessAbility Week, ambassadors Addie, Finnley, Scarlett and Wynn shared their thoughts on what an accessible Canada looks like to them. From accessible buses to wider stalls, to inclusive communities and opportunities, their voices remind us that accessibility benefits everyone.

This week, and every week, we celebrate the importance of creating spaces where all children and youth belong.

Video Description: In this video, Holland Bloorview ambassadors Addie, Finnley, Scarlett and Wynn share their perspective on what an accessible Canada looks like to them. The video begins with a outside shot of the Holland Bloorview building, then goes into each ambassador answering the question, and then finishes on a screen inviting everyone to join the conversation.

'If you're not taking steps to support your physical health, there's probably a reason that's coming from your mental health... And often dads keep that inside.'

A Family Like Mine shares honest conversations about fatherhood, mental health and caregiving, and why support matters for dads, too.

What if therapy felt more like play?

For Dr. Elaine Biddiss, video games are more than entertainment, they’re a pathway to inclusion, confidence, and independence for children with disabilities.

At Holland Bloorview, Dr. Biddiss and her team created accessible therapy games like Bootle Blast and Bootle Pop! that help kids build motor skills, engage in music, and participate in play in ways that work for them. What feels like fun is actually therapy woven seamlessly into everyday life.

From helping children continue rehabilitation at home to creating opportunities for siblings of all abilities to play together, this work is reimagining what accessibility can look like.

Because accessibility isn’t just about removing barriers, it’s about creating spaces where everyone belongs.
