We would like to thank all of you for your Best wishes and Prayers that brought us to this moment in our lives where we are fortunate enough to worry less about Banee's health. Banee is doing after her treatment got over. As a side effect, she has gained weight rapidly (10kgs in 2.5 mths). We are seeking consultation towards making it better. Hoping for the best for all of you and your families!

Wishing all of you a Happy and prosperous New Year.
Banee has been suffering from neutropenia since 2 weeks now. Meaning her blood neutrophils are almost Zero, further meaning Zero immunity.
We visited the hospital near New year's Eve and today too. Situation is still not very good. Doctors have paused her chemo medications as they wait for her body to build immunity in its own.
Thanks again for your well wishes.

Banee went for her next Lumbar puncture procedure on Thursday. Has been coping with side effects of Dexamethasone as she continues to complete the 5 day course.
Hoping for quicker and smoother recovery. Thanks for your wishes!

Happy to report that Banee received her first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. SickKids hospital organized a special camp for kids wherein they kept children under observation for about half-hour to ensure that there were no side effects. Apparently, the vaccine carries PEG- asparaginase stabilizer which causes a reaction in kids with low immunity.

Next dose coming up in about 8 weeks.

Banee underwent surgery for the removal of her port. which was accompanied by her planned Lumbar Puncture procedure. She is recuperating and has been advised to avoid intensive physical activity for the next 2 weeks.

Regret the delay in posting. Covid and stuff, a lot has been going on. We continue to navigate our journey with Banee at the epicenter.
Banee visited the hospital to start the next phase of her treatment. This time around the doctors have been talking about removing the port she has embedded in her chest. It's been 2 years since she has carried it inside her body. She has grown and the risk of infection always lurks around the fact that there is a foreign plastic/rubber pipe in her chest.
So doctors set her up for an appointment next month for surgery to remove the port and carry out the Lumbar puncture procedure.

She has not had proper sleep in 2 weeks. Thanks to dexamethasone steroids and chemo doses. Hope she gets some rest and does not wake up nauseated.

Thank you all for your prayers and best wishes. They brought us this far, hopefully, we will go far and beyond. Thanks again!

Banee entered the next phase of her treatment. Which is a positive step towards completion of her treatment next year. Yet this has certain implications. They loaded her up with several chemo doses on Thursday, making her sleep and recovery tough over the weekend.
The steroid dose that continues for this week has already started taking a toll on her emotional and physical will being. She has lots of numb situations with no idea where to go and what to do. Is in semi sleepy state all day. Needing some extra warmth and care. Also has hives on face because of chemo.
We are thankful to be safe in these unpredictable times. Hope our well-wishers are doing well, and stay well too!

Banee visited the hospital for routine checkup. They accessed her port to draw blood for tests. The results came out ok. Her immunity is suppressed due to oral chemo drugs and antibiotics, however overall her health is well. Thanks for your prayers and good wishes!

Banee finally completed the treatment that marks the next phase of her treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The treatment phase started with a lumbar puncture where chemo was delivered into her backbone and IV in parallel. She has been taking steroids for the past 5 days after her Thursday visit. Days have started normally and the steroids seem to start meddling with her moods as the day progresses. She is totally confused and fully bored of everything by end of the day. Nights have been equally restless.
Hopefully, now that she has stopped steroids, i.e. Dexamethasone (I heard the same is being administered to Covid patients), Banee should be able to get back on track with her usual treatment routines.
Praying for the health and wellness of all, during the testing phase, around the world.

Sharing an update after almost a month. Covid has changed life for everyone. Hope our readers/followers are doing well and we pray that they all be safe.
Banee will be going for her Covid swab tomorrow. And will be followed by the Lumbar Puncture procedure 2 days later.

Banee came back from the hospital on Thursday. The doctors stopped her ongoing oral chemo meds to allow the body to build its immunity. Will be visiting the hospital again on Tuesday for tests. Hope all goes well

Banee's fight with B-cell Leukemia at SickKids

Banee is 4 yrs old and is our only child. She is a visitor to Canada and arrived at Toronto YYZ along with her mom during first week of November, 2019 to visit her dad. It was a family reunion visit, perhaps the longest she has ever stayed away from her father.

I am a Permanent Resident in Canada am still searching for a decent paying full-time job. It is difficult to get the first break. The plan was that I would first come to Canada and settle things so that it would be easy for family to join in later. Banee however missed me dearly, so came to Canada to meet me (Visitor visa). I was hoping that I could get a job and sponsor my family.

After about a fortnight of her arrival, Banee woke up early morning with very high fever. We visited our local Hospital only to be referred to Children's Hospital in Toronto. It really cut the ground under our feet when the blood tests indicated that she had high chances of having Leukemia cells. Doctors conducted Bone Marrow and Lumbar Puncture procedures to confirm the findings that Banee has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

We did have travel insurance for Banee, however it falls way short in comparison to funds required to fight Leukemia. Banee's treatment is already underway since last week of November, 2019 and will take approx 27 months to complete. Banee is admitted at SickKids Hospital and doctors have already begun first phase of Chemotherapy treatment.
