Well, we've wrapped up another great year participating in the Healing Cycle Ride for Hospice Palliative Care in Ontario. Our riders and their generous supporters raised over $8500!
This year the ride went virtual with participants riding and tracking their distance on their own throughout the month of September.
The money raised will help Hazel Burns Hospice in continuing to provide valuable services that touch the lives of individuals, families and caregivers in our communities and allow us to continue to bring greater awareness to a quality of care at the end of life that we all deserve!
We truly appreciate the support!

We're only 3 days away from Healing Cycle Month!
Support Hazel Burns Hospice at this year's Healing Cycle Ride for Hospice Palliative Care.
This September Hazel Burns Hospice is participating in the Healing Cycle Ride for Hospice Palliative Care in Ontario. Not many people know that only 30% of Canadians who need hospice palliative care will receive it. The Healing Cycle Foundation wants to change those odds!
By supporting Hazel Burns Hospice at this year's ride you can help us in continuing to touch the lives of more and more individuals, families and caregivers in our communities and bring greater awareness to a quality of care at the end of life that we all deserve!

On September 15th Hazel Burns Hospice participated in the Healing Cycle Ride for Hospice Palliative Care in Ontario. It was a fun day (though a bit soggy!) where we got to ride and mingle with fellow hospice and palliative care workers/supporters from across the province. As a hospice we were able to raise over $8000 which will help bring more meaningful services to our clients in the community. Thank you to all those that showed their support.
Here's a little collection of photos from the day:

We just wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude to The Sweet Potato a community-oriented, organic supermarket that treated our hospice volunteers to a delicious and healthful spread of food and drink at our volunteer appreciation event last month. We are touched by their recognition and support for the compassionate work of our volunteers in bringing dignity and meaningful connection to our clients at end-of-life.

Hazel Burns Hospice ran a workshop at this year's Hospice Palliative Care Ontario conference titled "When MAiD will be the Cause of Death: Workshopping how we Support the Families and Friends of the Dying". It was a sold out crowd (ok it was free, but the room was packed), and there were some amazing conversations happening about making sense of the new dynamics at play surrounding grief and bereavement for clients electing for medical assistance in dying. Amazing job by our MSW practicum student and continuing dedicated volunteer Carolyn who led the session with the help of our wonderful case manager Jo-Ann. Here is a link for a copy of the handout for the workshop, do check it out:

We hold 6-week bereavement support groups throughout the year offering families, friends and caregivers the opportunity to come together and explore their personal experiences with grief and bereavement. Each session offers different activities and/or topics of discussion, followed by time for personal reflection and sharing amongst the group.
This giant patchwork quilt was made by group members last year to honour loved ones that had passed on.
Our next support group starts in May. Please let us know if you'd like to participate.
