Last month, Humber Downtown hosted the Beyond Graduation Symposium, a part of a multi-year research project supporting international graduates in the Canadian workforce.
 
Humber Downtown’s international students played an active role as research assistants, bringing their lived experiences into data, insights, and solutions along with faculty and employers.
 
“As a Research Assistant in Project Management, I support planning and ex*****on across all three years of the project—managing timelines, milestones, resources, stakeholder collaboration, risk tracking, and ethical compliance,” says Manjunath Shankar, a research assistant.
 
While gaining hands-on experience, our students supported more inclusive opportunities for international graduates in Canada.

📣 From December 15 to 23, International Graduate Student and Immigration Advisor (IGSA) walk-in hours will shift to pre-booked in-person and virtual appointments only.

With winter around the corner, we’re reminiscing about what Humber feels like throughout the year.

🇵🇭 Meet Sharleen from Philippines
Diploma in Biotechnology
 
“This program has greatly improved my confidence in laboratory settings. Through lab-based coursework, I developed essential skills in microscopy, centrifugation, pipetting, and aseptic techniques, crucial in real-world clinical and research environments.
 
Currently, I am working full-time as a Laboratory Technician and Andrologist at New Life Fertility Centre. My role involves performing procedures in Assisted Reproductive Technology, including semen analysis, s***m cryopreservation, DNA fragmentation testing, and sample preparation for intrauterine insemination (IUI) and therapeutic donor insemination (TDI).
 
I am proud to have received a scholarship from IGNITE, which I applied for through the MyHumber portal. It was a great financial support and a boost to my confidence.”
