While about 75% of Ontario’s electricity system comes from nuclear and hydro, our province’s electricity system uses many sources to generate electricity. ⚛️💧

Nuclear and hydro provide reliable baseload power, giving Ontario a steady supply of electricity around the clock.

Wind and solar are intermittent sources, generating electricity when the wind is blowing and the sun is shining.

Energy storage helps bring it all together, storing electricity when it’s available and releasing it when Ontario needs it most.

By using all of these sources together, Ontario is making the most of its energy advantage and delivering reliable electricity year-round.

Ontario’s world-class nuclear supply chain is helping build Canada’s first microreactor project, with Ontario-based BWXT Canada selected to fabricate and deploy Canada’s first Transportable Nuclear Power Plant for a 50-megawatt pilot project in New Brunswick.

The project will deliver reliable, clean baseload power for up to 40,000 homes and create nearly 200 good-paying jobs, while demonstrating how transportable nuclear technology can power remote and northern communities, mines and industrial sites. It’s another example of Ontario’s 60-year nuclear expertise strengthening made-in-Canada supply chains and building the next generation of nuclear technology.

This Women’s History Month, we’re shining a spotlight on Dr. Alice Wilson. 🔦⛏️

Born in Cobourg, Ontario, Dr. Wilson became the first woman hired by Geological Survey of Canada in 1909.

Despite facing significant barriers, including being repeatedly denied pursuing advanced studies, she earned her Ph.D. in 1929 and mapped more than 14,000 kilometres of Ottawa-St. Lawrence Lowlands.

As one of Canada’s pioneering geologists, Dr. Wilson’s determination has broken barriers for women in science for generations to follow.
