đ National Sunscreen Day | May 27
As we head into peak UV season, itâs a great time to remind everyone in the family to protect their skin every day â not just at the beach. Even on cloudy days, up to 80% of UV rays can still reach you, so make SPF part of your daily routine, all year long.
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers, but the good news is itâs also one of the most preventable. A few simple habits can make a big difference in keeping your familyâs skin healthy.
â
Choose smart protection
Broad-spectrum (UVA + UVB)
SPF 30 or higher
Water-resistant (great for active kids!)
â
Use it properly
Apply 15 minutes before heading outside
Reapply every 2 hours (and after swimming or sweating)
Donât forget easy-to-miss spots like ears, neck, lips, and tops of feet
â
Go beyond sunscreen
Look for shade (especially between 10 a.m. â 2 p.m.)
Dress for the sun with lightweight long sleeves, hats, and sunglasses
And remember â everyone needs sunscreen â kids, teens, and adults of every skin tone. Keeping sun safety part of your daily routine helps protect today and for years to come. đ

Today, the Catholic Childrenâs Aid Society of Toronto joins Christians around the world in celebrating Pentecost, the great feast that takes place 50 days after Easter. Known as the âBirthday of the Church,â
Pentecost marks the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, filling them with courage and the ability to speak in many languages so they could share the Gospel with all people.
Rooted in the Jewish festival of Shavuot, Pentecost reminds us of Godâs ongoing work of renewal, unity, and mission. The symbols of the dayâwind, fire, and the colour redâreflect the Spiritâs power to transform hearts and communities.
Across Toronto, Catholic parishes celebrate this feast with special Masses, baptisms, confirmations, and community gatherings that honour the Spiritâs presence among us. Around the world, many countries also observe Whit Monday, extending the celebration of this sacred season.
As we reflect on Pentecost, may the Holy Spirit continue to guide us in our mission to serve children, youth, and families with compassion, courage, and hope.
Come, Holy Spirit. đĽđď¸

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) â marking its 15th year on May 21, 2026.
At CCAS, we recognize that true inclusion means ensuring everyone can access and engage with the digital world. More than one billion people globally live with disabilities, and digital accessibility plays a critical role in removing barriers to information, services, and connection.
Digital accessibility means designing websites, apps, and online content so that people of all abilities can navigate and interact with them independently. From clear communication to inclusive technology, weâre committed to creating environments â both online and offline â where children, youth, and families can thrive.
Today is a reminder to reflect and take action: explore accessibility resources, test your digital platforms, and deepen your understanding of diverse needs across visual, hearing, motor, and cognitive experiences. Together, we can build a more equitable, accessible future for all.

đż Recognizing Maternal Mental Health Month | May 2026
May is Maternal Mental Health Month, a time to raise awareness about Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) â treatable conditions that affect 1 in 5 new mothers during pregnancy or in the first year postpartum. These challenges are not a reflection of a parentâs love, strength, or ability.
This yearâs theme, A Decade of Voices, highlights the importance of listening to womenâs experiences and ensuring no one feels alone in their journey.
At CCAS, our workers support families through newborn education, early health assessments, and compassionate guidance, while also connecting parents facing prenatal mental health challenges with community supports, culturally responsive resources, and wraparound services that strengthen safety and wellâbeing.
Letâs continue to uplift mothers, birthing parents, and caregivers by fostering understanding, compassion, and access to care. No one should struggle in silence.

National Nursing Week 2026: The Power of Nurses to Transform Health
Nurses at the Catholic Childrenâs Aid Society of Toronto play a transformative role in strengthening families and protecting the most vulnerable. During National Nursing Week, we honour the Health Specialists who bring expert, compassionate care directly into family homes through programs like Safe Sleep and Safe Bathâsupporting infant safety, early intervention, and the dignity of every child and parent.
Their work reflects a powerful shift in nursing: care delivered in community, grounded in prevention, and rooted in Catholic social teaching.

Happy Mother's Day!
Motherhood doesnât look one way â and neither does love.
We uplift mothers and all who hold mothering roles in our communities. Today, we honour every path to being a mom â through birth, adoption, fostering, kinship, or by showing up again and again for someone who needs you. We see the aunties, grandmothers, Elders, chosen family, caregivers, and community members whose love, guidance, and care reflect the heart of mothering.
We also hold space for the full reality of being a mom, the joy and pride, the exhaustion and worry, the grief, the longing, and the quiet moments in between. Mothering is made up of highs and lows, certainty and doubt, strength and vulnerability.
To all who mother in their own way â through patience, sacrifice, advocacy, warmth, and care â your presence matters more than you know.
This Motherâs Day, and always, we celebrate moms.

National Child and Youth Mental Health Day â May 7
Today, we recognize National Child and Youth Mental Health Day. This day raises awareness, reduces stigma, and highlights the importance of meaningful connections between children, youth, and the caring adults in their lives.
As a child welfare agency, mental health is central to everything we do. Many children and youth face anxiety that can affect their sense of safety, their relationships, and their ability to learn and thrive. For families, this can mean missed school days, missed work, and ongoing concern for a childâs well-being. These realities remind us that supporting mental health early, and consistently, is essential.
National Child and Youth Mental Health Day takes place during Childrenâs Mental Health Week (May 4â10). This yearâs theme, âCome Together,â emphasizes that connection â to self, to family, to peers, and to community â is foundational to mental health.
For children and youth involved in child welfare, feeling connected and supported can make a lasting difference in managing anxiety and building resilience. Community-based mental health services play a critical role in helping young people feel seen, heard, and supported. Investing in these services means strengthening connection, reducing barriers to care, and ensuring children and youth get the help they need, when they need it.
Today, and every day, we encourage simple but powerful actions: listening, checking in, and letting young people know, âI care about you.â Together, we can help build a more connected, responsive system of care for children, youth, and families.
