Another successful fire alarm panel upgrade in the books. 🔥🚨
This project involved replacing an older Simplex system with a brand new Autocall fire alarm panel - and you can’t miss that bright red finish lighting up the room.
The install required solid coordination from the entire electrical and fire alarm team. from replacing field devices to getting everything landed cleanly and ready for commissioning. Once the hardware was in place, our licensed Autocall technician programmed the panel from scratch, ensuring the system was configured exactly to the building’s requirements.
Always satisfying seeing a clean install come together bright red panel, organized wiring, and a fully programmed system ready to protect the building.
Great teamwork all around. 💪

A tragic fire at a Toronto seniors residence this week claimed a life and once again reminds all of us in the life safety industry that fire protection is not just a checklist, it’s about protecting vulnerable people in the moments that matter most.
Reports indicate crews encountered heavy smoke and extreme heat while rescuing occupants from the eighth floor of the building. The Ontario Fire Marshal is now investigating.
In buildings that house seniors and vulnerable occupants, the margin for error is incredibly small.
That’s why consistent inspections, properly functioning fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, smoke control, emergency lighting, staff procedures, and clear documentation all matter. Not because code says so — but because lives depend on it.
As our cities continue to densify and more people live in high-rise residential and seniors buildings, the importance of proactive life safety maintenance only grows.

At EPI Fire Protection, we’ve been evolving what EPI U represents.
This year, we’re welcoming a new type of student into the program — not just future technicians, but future project leaders, coordinators, and operators.
We’re excited to have Anthony Drekopoulos joining our Sprinkler Construction Division this summer as a Junior Projects Assistant.
Anthony will be gaining hands-on exposure across the full project lifecycle — from tendering and estimating to material coordination, documentation, and construction ex*****on.
The goal is simple: give real responsibility, real context, and real industry experience early.
Because strong fire protection companies aren’t built by chance — they’re built by developing people who understand how the work actually gets done.
Every long journey starts with a step.
This is one of them.

Today marks the first day of Year 5 of EPI U — our in-house, industry-leading training program for fire alarm technicians.
What began as a summer training initiative has become a core part of how we build, develop, and retain top talent at EPI Fire Protection. Each year, we invest heavily in structured training, real-world exposure, and mentorship to ensure these individuals don’t just become CFAA-certified technicians — they become exceptional ones.
Our goal is simple: develop the next generation of elite fire alarm technicians who understand the responsibility behind life safety systems and take pride in doing the job right.
A warm welcome to this year’s cohort from Seneca and Durham College fire programs. Let’s get to work.

To every property manager overseeing a building with dry pipe sprinklers:
Winter quietly put several of your code-required tests on hold. Not because anyone made a bad call, because they literally cannot be done safely in freezing temperatures.
The dry pipe valve trip test. The full flow trip test. The main drain. The fire pump flow test. All of them have legitimate warm-weather requirements baked into NFPA 25.
All of them accumulate as outstanding items on your inspection record the longer they sit.
What tests are still outstanding at your properties?

Your fire protection contractor should be managing your timeline — not the other way around.
If you're the one following up to schedule your annual inspection, chasing a report that should've been submitted weeks ago, or waiting on a deficiency quote before you can even think about repairs — that's a problem.
Not just an inconvenience. A real liability exposure.
Here's what you should be able to expect from your fire alarm contractor — without asking:
• 01 Proactive scheduling — well before the due date
Annual inspections don't sneak up on a good contractor. They should be reaching out early so you have time to coordinate access, notify tenants, and plan around your operations.
• 02 Timely inspection reports and deficiency quotes
Once the inspection is done, the clock starts. You need that report for your records, your insurer, and your AHJ. And you can't approve repairs without a quote — delays here cascade into compliance risk.
• 03 Repairs completed promptly after approval
An approved quote that sits in a queue is a documented deficiency that remains unresolved. That's on record. If something happens in that window, the question of who knew what — and when — becomes very uncomfortable.
The full cycle — propose, inspect, report, quote, repair — should move efficiently and without you having to push it along. That's not a premium service. That's the baseline.
If your contractor isn't delivering that, it's worth asking whether the gap between their timeline and yours is putting your building — and your liability — at risk.
